The Intrepid is interesting. 14 year old's will probably like Times Square as the wax museum might appeal to them. It's not cheap, but ice skating in Rockefeller Center should be a thrill. If you want to do something sports related, you might want to check the Chelsea Piers website and see what's available on a pay as you go basis.

If they like sports, they'll love ESPN Zone in Times Square. If they're into baseball, you can take a tour of Yankee Stadium even though it's not in season. MSG is right near the Empire State building and I'm sure they'd like the view. You can buy tickets online to avoid one line and save some time.

They might enjoy the Museum of natural History - esp the dino section - or the Arms and Armor section of the Met - depending on their interests.
If the weather is bad (more snow?) you might try one of the IMAX theaters around town.

Maybe FAO Schwartz toy store. Its 58th and 5th. They re-opened around Christmas time and are suppose to have alot of special toys that you won't find elsewhere. I don't know if that's a cool thing to do for 14 year olds.
My other suggestion was going bowling (though very un-original). There is bowlmor lanes (not sure of spelling) downtown. Its not your typical bowling alley.
I am a Friar and will be attending the Big East Championship-Though I don't think Providence will get very far. I hope you have a great time!!

Friar Lmaev,
Good luck at the Big East! I'm going, too, to watch. How exciting to be playing. I am a Pitt fan but love the Friars. My daughter is a senior at PC and am very fond of the school and basketball team. Have fun and remember the "Little Engine That Could".
