Between Chicago, Wisconsin Dells and beyond

Can anyone suggest something worthy to stop and see on way to W.Dells from Chicago? We are attending a child-oriented family reunion ( as you can see) and besides a lovely golf course in Rockford, I am wondering what else is nearby or within two hours or so AFTER the reunion to extend the vacation a bit.

I have already been to Milwaukee, Madison and Door County.

Thank you!

Spring Green for Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin and the House on the Rock tours.

The small towns of New Glarus and Monroe also are worth a quick stop.

I was also going to suggest The House on the Rock as an interesting afternoon, especially with kids. I'm sure there's a website so you can get an idea of what's there.

You might stop in Madison and tour around a bit, fun shops close to the University and some good family restaurants.

Have a FUN trip.

Near Mount Horeb (about 2o miles SW of Madison) you will find Cave of the Mounds and also Little Norway. Both are pleasant family diversions.

If you are looking for a stop with the kids, I'd suggest Madison with kayaking on Lake Wingra and the Vilas Zoo. A Madison Mallards game is also a lot of fun if they are in town.

If you don't get to Devils Lake during the reunion, you should also consider that. It is wonderful.

house on the rock is always great for families. Devils Lake is great for a variety of activites. In Madison I belive that there is a child's museum. I know you said that you did not want to stop in Milwaukee, but Betty Brinn childs museum downtown is a fun stop for kids, as well as the brand new Discovery World on the lakefront. This would be on your way and not off the beaten path...

One other posibility to come down from the noise of the Dells is Old World Wisconsin. A really cool place to spend a couple of hours outdoors on a nice afternoon.
