best way to get to grand central NYC
Hi. We will be dropping our son to visit some friends on Friday in East Greenwich, RI. Wonder what the best option is for us to continue on to NYC by train to Grand Central.
Drive to Stamford and take commuter train to NYC (would need to be able to park car for the weekend in Stamford)
Drive to New Haven and take commuter train to NYC (would need to be able to park car for weekend in New Haven)
Or is there a better option(s)? We looked into taking the train from Providence to NYC but our hotel is a closer walk from Grand Central and seems as though the commuter trains run more frequently to and from
thanks for any advice you can give. We leave this Friday, 7-8 and return Sunday 7-10
Debbie

I have asked the MODs to move your thread to the NY, CT, and RI sub-forums. That should increase the number of potential responses.
If you can find parking in Providence, you can probably take Amtrak to New Haven. From there you can get a MetroNorth RR train to Grand Central.
You would have to check Amtrak's services from RI and New Haven.
You could also take Amtrak directly to NYC (Penn Station) and then take the subway to Grand Central (uptown 1, 2, or 3 train to Times Square - one stop - and transfer to the 42nd St Shuttle to Grand Central - one stop).

practice, practice, practice?
wait, that's Carnegie Hall....
When all is said and done it may be simpler to take Amtrak all the way to Penn Station and take a cab the 1 mile to your hotel.

You might also add up the cost of the train, parking, gas, tolls and whatever and simply drive into New York. It's about three hours from East Greenwich. Factor in about $50 parking per night at your hotel.

A bit late to respond now, but you can always use Rome2Rio app or website to help figure out a good way.
BTW, the cheapest way is via bus (local to Providence, then Peter Pan to Port Authority).
The fastest way is via bus to Providence, then plane to La Guardia (much more expensive.)
