Best way from Bryce to San Francisco in 3 days
Please can you suggest an interesting route from Bryce Canyon to SF? We've got 3 days to do it in.
All the dire warnings about Yosemite and Sequoia being full up in August have worried me, but we'd be sad to miss the mountains and forests after a lot of dry desert in Arizona and New Mexico.
What do you recommend?

Hi, I have been to Bryce several times and love the place. From there, be sure to see Cedar Breaks, which is similar, but different enough to be interesting. Zion is just down the road, but it can be hot in the summer.
From your message, I assume that you have adequate time to see Bryce. Then you have 3 days in which to get to SF. From Cedar City take Utah route 56 over to Panaca Nevada and US 93 north to Great Basin National Park. After half a day or so of poking around Great Basin you can head west. From GB take US 6 to Tonopah Nevada and wind your way over to Lee Vining, CA.
Then enter Yosemite by way of Tioga Pass. There are motels in Lee Vining. In the summer reservations are probably safe. That can easily use up 3 days.
I came in that way a few years ago, and we got an early start (6 AM) had time for a full day in Yosemite, spending the following night outside of the park. It is a slow road on to SF
from Yosemite.

*DON'T SKIP YOSEMITE* because of crowds!! It is too beautiful a place to miss because of misanthropy! Just don't go there on a weekend,if at ALL possible, and you should be okay. Arrive EARLY in the day (the idea of staying in Lee Vining and entering through Tioga Pass is a good one) and you should have a quality experience.DON'T arrive on a Saturday afternoon or you may have to wait an hour to get in!

Just heard on the Bay area radio in an interview with a park ranger that visitors to Yosemite are down this year and it's fairly uncrowded!! I guess El Nino scared a lot of folks away, but the park is up and fully functioning and there's lots of water in the falls. Should be beautiful!! But, still wouldn't go on a Saturday!!! Have lunch at the Ahwahnee, if you have the time---it's a real Yosemite attraction!
