Best value? NYC hotel-3-4 nights family of 4 Dec. 24-27
We'd like to stay in a pleasant hotel with, hopefully, a spacious room. Hus. wife and 2 large sons. We'd like to be centrally located. We're new at this so aren't adept at priceline orbitz hotwire etc. Will our time frame be average price? Any recommendations will be gratefully received

I would suggest the Doubletree in the Timesquare area, since the rooms are suites, and since there are 4 of you.
You will probably have problems finding deals, and may have a problem finding a room at this late date.
Another suggestion would be the Grand Union Hotel just off Madison AVe the rooms are nice and at $100 a night or a little less you can get 2 rooms and have a bit more room for each of you.
Try hotels.com as they are listed there and you may get discount prices.
Have fun while you are here, the city will be beautiful.

Belvedere is good choice but often
full "booked".
A little "excentred" but not too far are
Hotel Olcott on 72nd street between columbus and central park west, with
family suites at very good price, Beacon hotel on Broadway very near from the precedent, also with Family suites and a little more expensive, but the suites are of good size and the one on broadway at a good price-normally-I
don't know in this season : Mayflower on the park.(CPW and 61st.).
As you can note, Upper west side is one of our favorite part of NY...

For a bargain also try Days Inn and Hojo on 8th Ave, just an excellent location, right on the C E subway 50th st stop. 1 long block from Times Square. One problem you may have is getting 2 beds per room in some hotels, both of the above have large rooms, also look at Super 8.

Get 2 rooms on Priceline, assuming your sons are old enough that they know how to behave on their own. Will likely cost you about the same as one room booked conventionally, but will give you MUCH more space AND an extra bathroom!
See www.BetterBidding.com for help/advice with Priceline.

We just returned from NYC and stayed at the Embassy Suites in Battery Park. The hotel is great with nice, big suites. We fit 5 comfortably in the room. Breakfast and happy hour are included. Our price was around $200 a night. There is a hefty $45 parking fee per day. It was very easy to take the subway to Timesquare.
