Over at http://tinyurl.com/dfl7hd they are running a poll on "Best Town Square In The World." I have traveled a lot, like most of you, and truly enjoy a good town square. Some of my favorites include Rynek Glowny in Krakow and Old Town Square in Prague. What are some of your favorites?

St. Marks in Venice was the first one that popped into my head.

I'll nominate: Place de Voges in Paris and Bryant Park in New York City.

For entertainment value I like Washington Square, NYC. I second jroth with Bryant Park in NYC. Brugge also has some beautiful town squares as does Savannah.

Plaza Mejor in Madrid, Spain

Siena, Italy's town square is pretty awesome. So is Prague's.

Santa Fe, NM

Quito, Ecuador.

I'm partial to Puebla's, Coatepec's, Oaxaca's, Tlaxcala's...all in Mexico.

I think photos would go well with the nominations!

I'll nominate Central Park which in a way was built as a town square where the classes could mingle

Please note that it is spelled Plaza Mayor in Madrid. I think the over-priced mediocre retaurants that ring the PLaza detract from it's grace.

Place de Voges in Paris, the Old Town Square in Prague, and the Square in Siena are among my favorites.

Although Central Park is one of the beautiful spots in Manhattan, the walls make it less of a town square. Washington Square is open with music, politics, and other activities.

Piazza Navaona in Rome is one of my favorites as is Plaza Del Obradoido in Santiago de Compostela with the Cathedral and the oldest hotel in Europe.

Does the Mall in Washington, D.C. count?

Jackson Square, New Orleans comes to mind as a great public square although I'm not sure I'd say it was the best in the world.

What the heck. I'll toss in a few. Boston Commons, Boston Public Garden, Luxemburg Garden (Paris), Tuileries (Paris), The Green (Litchfield, CT), Plaza de Mayo (Buenos Aires), Chapultepec Park (Mexico City), El Zocalo (Mexico City), Alameda Park (Mexico City)

i love many of the ones mentioned above.
but i do love my local town square in mill valley.
it has a lot of charm, great stores, coffee shops, restaurants and small town appeal.
