Tia Pol-Chef left but qaulity is still excellent. Favorite-razor claims and cockles, chorizos with chocolate
Xunta-the most authentic tasca (tapas bar/restaurant) in New York. Xunta (pronounced SHOON-ta roughly means province in Gallego. Large Menu. Stools at barrels can be uncomfortable, try the bar or large groups at the tables. Favorites-Dates in bacon, wonderful choices of tortilla espanol, the omnipresent thick omelet found throughout Spain.
Casa Mono-overly fussy and over rated tapas. Setting is anything but genuine and like the Mario Batali restaurants I have eaten at Esca and Luppa food is over salted. He lived in Spain but these are his takes.
Bar Carerra-like a modern tasca in San Sebastian, (the best food in Spain IMHO) with a limited but excellent selection. Favorite charred carmelized, white bean dish
We have only eaten once at Pipa but is large noisy and over priced.

A few months ago, I had a great time at Boqueria in the Flatiron district. We were there for hours, and the food was great. You might have a bit of a wait, though.

Oh, I was just reading to the bottom before I suggested that, sunny. We enjoyed boquiera too -- not the run of the mill tapas, the dishes were a bit unusual, I thought, and the desserts were great. We got there just before they opened for dinner so we got seated right away but it did fill up pretty quickly.
