Best sunset view on Oahu?

Hello:

We'll be on Oahu in a few weeks and it's been many years since we've been to Hawaii.

Where can we best view the sunset? Maybe a place where we can have a few drinks or even dinner? It's been so long and I know things have changed so any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Carol

North shore is the best for sunsets. To better photograph the sunset, shoot your shot with a pair of sunglasses in front of the lense to block the glare.

The sun sets in different places based on the time of the year but I never go to Oahu without spending at least one late afternoon and evening at the House Without a Key lounge at the Halekulani Hotel on Waikiki Beach. The Mai Tais are potent and delicious (I never liked them until I had one there!), the pupus are expensive but delicious, and watching a former Miss Hawaii dance the hula as the sun sent down remains my best memory of years in Hawaii.

The best place to photograph sunsets in Hawaii is at Kaena point on Oahu. In fact, most of your professional photographic sunsets of Hawaii have been taken there. Sorry, no ammenities out there and you need to hike or bike it part of the way.

Jameson's Restaurant in Haleiwa on the North Shore. Another alternative (and the one we preferred) was to pack up the ice chest with drinks of choice, grab a plate lunch from the Haleiwa L&L Drive In, or a sandwich/hamburger from KuAina (sp?) sandwich shop, and have a picnic on the Haleiwa Harbor seawall. Sublime.....

I've taken some beautiful pictures of my family with the sun setting behind them across the street from Jameson's in Haleiwa on the north shore. Across the street is a park/beach/tide pool area. Sit outside at Jameson's with your mai tai until the sky becomes blazing with reds and oranges, then cross the street to take some beautiful photos.
