There are tons. You need to be more specific. Go to www.opentable.com where you can read reviews of the various restaurants or www.sfgate.com. Then come back and ask specific questions and we'll be happy to help. The answer to your questions is "yes, too many to list."

There are a lot of fantastic restaurants in San Francisco. A lot depends on what kind of food you like and how much you are willing to spend. A few of my favorites are Aqua, Asis de Cuba, Farallon, Fifth Floor (which is my very favorite), Fleur de Lys, Jardiniere and La Folie. Of course, others may have different opinions. Suggest you look up these restaurants on opentable.com and see if any interest you. Good luck and enjoy your anniversary.

Lori,

Many of the restaurants in SF tend to be overpriced for what you get and overrated. If I were you I would look into a nice place over in Berkeley or if you have time head up to the Wine Country(Napa or Sonoma). There are many great restaurants up there.

Shawn, how silly of you to imply that of the hundreds of restaurants in SF, all of them are over-priced and not worth it. However, I will concur that a very fine meal can be had at Chez Panisse in Berkeley. Highly recommended and worth the drive or BART ride.

Lori, the answers to your question are huge. Have a look at the SF Chronicle's list of the best 100 restaurants for some ideas.

Susan,

In my experience I have found it to be true. Many restaurants depend on their name or some rating from a newspaper or magazine from the past to just get customers in. I have also found that the service in mnay restaurants is substandard.

Lori,

I would not pay anny attention to some survey form the SF Chronicle. Their restaurant surveys are completely biased.
