Have a blast with your sisters, Sharon! I also arrive Houston 2/24 (for other reasons), but will be spending a lot of quality time while staying with my sister. I only see my sis about once per year, so I know what you are looking forward to.

Here's to sisters and fun times spent! Looking forward to hearing about your trip when you return.

I am in Houston visiting w/my sister right now, Statia, typing from her computer (wherre I've boookmarked fodors for her!) Nothing like it, literally like being at home, because she lives in my Mom's old house (Mom is in an Alzheimer's center now). I know your Mom is getting ready to move out too. Enjoy your trip!

But man, was the traffic bad on beltway 8 toll road going west on Friday evening at 5:30 pm! Ouch!

Hi emd, sounds like we are in similar situations with mothers and childhood homes. I hope your mom is doing well.

Thanks for the wishes and the traffic heads up. I don't arrive IAH until 11 p.m. Thursday night so hopefully we won't have any beltway traffic back to the Clear Lake area.

Actually, our Sisters' Weekend started when we 3 got together in Florida when our mother died -- in '97. First time the 3 of us had spent extended time together since childhood. We go somewhere every Feb. in honor of our parents.
NOT happy to see Houston is expecting rain and 60s -- brrr - to me in Richmond, VA -- but pretty okay with sisters in Cleveland! Oh well, the weatherman is often wrong. If God wants the sun to shine, it will

I just returned an hour ago from Houston for a day weekend. It was 60-73, but cloudy most of the time and I was psyched that I got to wear my lightweight fleece jacket at night and early morning, even on the day it rained breifly (Sunday). Nice weather for Houston.

Hi Sharon!

It just occurred to me why it's going to be colder this weekend -- the Rodeo is coming to town. For as long as I've lived here, the Friday that the trail riders arrive in Houston to kick off the start of the annual rodeo, it's always been cold and rainy. Today, of course, was 82 degrees!

By the way, Friday is "Go Texan Day." If you see a lot of folks in cowboy hats, cowboy boots, bandanas, etc., that is why -- we really don't always dress that way. Also, if you want to see something truly Texan, head over towards Memorial Park (which about a 1/2 mile away from your hotel). That's where all the trail riders will camp out for the rodeo parade on Saturday morning. They arrive in town of Friday (usually in the afternoon) from all directions. You might even see them on I-610 as they arrive. Otherwise, you can go see the parade on Saturday morning.

Just thought you might want to know!
Enjoy your stay.

Susan

Well heck, Susan...I just finished packing and I only have my hiking boots, Levis, and some short and long sleeve shirts, plus my lightweight fleece jacket. No Wrangler's, no Ropers, and no Panhandle shirts. Guess I'd better go repack!

Honestly, great advice Susan. I always enjoyed Go Texan day when I lived in Houston and I only wish I had the proper attire to bring along with me on this trip. It was always such a treat to dress for the rodeo on Go Texan Friday.

Sharon, you will enjoy being in town for such an event. Have a great trip!

The RodeoHouston Barbecue cookoff will be going on this weekend. Haven't been in over 10 years, so I don't know how much fun it is.
