I fear you may be looking for more budget standard "pizza places" but Wolfgang Puck has made California pizza what it is today, and there are a number of Wolfgang Puck cafes around the city with pretty reasonable prices. But my favorite wood oven pizzas are in Beverly Hills at Prego, a surprisingly moderately priced restaurant for what it is and where it is.

I like Prego, also. Farfalla on Hillhurst in the Los Feliz area( other locations
aBrea and Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena, neither quite as good as the original one). Best "regular Joe" pizza, but really dives: Casa Bianca in Eagle Rock , popular with the Occidental College students, has a Budweiser blimp floating from the ceiling, excellent pizza, and Vito's across the street from L.A. City College on Vermont. Also, Patsy's in the Farmers' Market on Third and Fairfax. Supposedly the first pizza place in L.A.. Miceli's in Hollywood has a lot of atmosphere and pretty good pizza , also.

Don't forget to put Wolfgang Puck on your list! There are several Wolfgang Puck Express places around town OR, if you happen to see a Gelson's Grocery Store nearby, they also have a special Wolfgang Puck section where they make it FRESH. Believe me when I tell you -- the fresh pizzas are wonderful compared to his frozen ones in the store which aren't really all that great. Anyway, my recommendation would be the Barbequed Shrimp Pizza! Absolutely delicious, with large pieces of shrimp on top (and they DON'T skimp either!)
Also, if you're near Universal Studios in Hollywood, about ten minutes down the road on Ventura Blvd. in Studio City is a very small, authentic Italian restaurant called La Loggia which has excellent thin crusted pizza!
Hope you'll post a "Pizza Report" on this very Board upon your return! Happy Eating!!
