This *is* a long thread and I apologize if the following is already listed. This site is for people who like to stay a longer time at a destination.

I know some of these have been mentioned previously, but hopefully I've included some new ones.
http://www.tripadvisor.com/
One of the first, and still the biggest and best when it comes to reviews for hotels.
http://www.boo.com/
Reviews for hotels & restaurants in different cities. Still small, but growing
http://www.intellicast.com/
Best weather site I've seen
http://www.wunderground.com/
Another good weather site. During hurricane season, I follow their in-house expert blog
http://www.tripit.com/
Just out of beta, you can store every detail of a trip (confirmation numbers, flight times, maps, etc.) and share with friends. Wish I'd have thought of that
http://www.triptie.com/
Interesting...I'm just getting into this one...
http://www.dogfriendly.com/
http://www.petvr.com/
Two good pet-friendly hotel listings sites
http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtrav...ted-items.shtm
TSA's what you can and can't bring on a plane!
http://www.resideo.com/
Up-and-coming hotel reservation site -- great search feature, simple booking process (3 steps, yay!). Plus, you can edit the hotel info for places you've stayed at (as well as post reviews). Message board, etc.
http://maps.google.com/
Google will rule the world, one day -- absolutely the best directions, etc. Love Street View -- nothing like being able to see where you're going to go.
http://www.yapta.com/
Worth mentioning again -- great for watching rates

In addition to vrbo.com mentioned above for vacation home rentals (much better for families than renting several hotel rooms generally), I recommend homeaway.com because they have a search by YOUR dates feature like the hotel sites so you can efficiently pull up only what is available and not have to sort through everything just to find out your dates are booked.

www.yelp.com has reviews on virtually every business. It began in San Francisco so those reviews are most complete but has expanded all over the USA.
