Hi taconic! Just finding this thread and admitting I didn't read all of it. We like the Marriott Renaissance. It is located next to the huge convention center. It is non gaming and non smoking. The executive lounge is good, not great, but we had breakfast every morning and evening snacks.
Sorry to not be catching up on travel stories in BOS this year!

Hey, Simpson, so good to from you! Good suggestion, and I will check it out, as I have lots of Marriott points.
I see Bob and Karin are off again! Are you not going to Bos GTG next fall?

BOS GTG isn't going to happen this fall because Bob and Karen will be in Bali or someplace (S E Asia, I'm pretty sure).
I'm off to Bangkok myself on April 17, but before that is a quick trip to Switzerland. Wishing we had time for Amsterdam (would love to try your rental there).

Can only agree with DebitNM. My family and me also stayed at The Signature and we really enjoyed it. You could check out http://las-vegas.hotelscheap.org/ , they should have promotions for it as well. At least they did, when I booked for us.

Just checking in to say that despite our trying to help, our friends have gone ahead and booked a hotel. They have booked the Aria, which looks quite good, but expensive.
It may be that they've gotten some kind of a price break on line from The Netherlands.
Not quite sure where the trip goes from her, so I guess we will let them organize what they want to see. Sometimes I find that Europeans are not very aware of the driving distances in the states!

Hello from Bangkok, taconic. I totally agree with your comment about driving distances. We are used to getting in the car and driving for 10 hours to get somewhere. Our European friends can't imagine such travels... lol. For us, it is often late night, find a motel along the interstate, and sleep. For our European friends, it might be finding a hotel in the city at about 4-5 in the afternoon, and then having a lavish dinner before going to bed. We know this from the recommendations we have sometimes gotten for our Europe driving trips. We prefer to get in the car and drive in one day to get from Amsterdam to Lausanne!! Just the way we travel. At our ages, we won't change much now.

yes, I realize people change their minds, but I love reading the original question again about looking for a "non chic, and non strip" hotel and then repeating they preferred "not fancy".
So the Aria, which is very chic, very expensive, very fancy, and ON the strip fits the bill perfectly. Good! LOL
