Best MetroNorth Stop for weekend getaway
We live in NYC and want to take a short weekend trip up north via MetroNorth train (we do NOT have a car). What is the best stop to visit. We love old small towns as well as costal towns.
It can be any line: Upstate New York, Connecticut, or RI
Thanks

You will have many more options if you are willing to rent a car. There's a Hertz office across the street from the North White Plains Metro North station, and there's also a car rental inside New Haven train station (serviced by both Metro North and Amtrak). If you take Metro North to Poughkeepsie (or Amtrak), you could also rent, but I think there are fewer options, but one may be Enterprise.
Having said that, Cold Spring is a nice town. I'm just dubious that there's be enough to occupy me for a whole weekend. Hudson (on Amtrak only) is also a nice place but has fewer hotel options ... though another is due to open sometime this year).
