We will be visiting Boston mainly to see a Red Sox game with our 13 year old son. We normally stay at Marriott's. Which location is the best (and safest) to Fenway? Also, what are some other interesting sites to see in the same area?

There's the Copley Marriott which is about a 15 min walk or short T ride away. There's also a Marriott Courtyard in Coolidge Corner in Brookline. Also a 15-20 min walk or short T ride from Fenway. Both are very safe and in good neighborhoods with plenty to do and see. Copley Marriott is a more central location for visiting Boston but it will also be more pricey.

There is not much in immediate area of Fenway that is interesting to see - so if you really want a Marriott, I agree with above poster - with preference for Copley since it is a better base to see other things.

Is it a day or nights game? It's a matter of choice, you can walk from Copley or stay at the waterfront marriott and take the greenline from Haymarket......the waterfront is nice, with the northend/little italy. Copley is a few blocks from the Charles River and the PublicGardens/Swan Boats.

If you do want to stay right near Fenway, you can consider the Commonwealth Hotel which is right around teh corner. Also, you might want to take a tour of Fenway park. The tours given when there is no game going on, will take you to parts of the park you might not see during the game, like on top of and inside the Green Monster. I think you have just missed the Rockwell and the Red Sox exhibit at the MFA, unfortunately. THey had a bunch of World Series memorabilia on display for a while (including the infamous bloody sock).

But as the other posters have correctly pointed out, its not hard to get to Fenway using mass transit from any of the downtown locations, and tou could certainly stay at Copley or Long Wharf Marriotts. Down near the Long Wharf Marriott is the aquarium, the harbor and whale watch cruises, the IMAX and Faneuil Hall/Quincy market, any of which might entertain you and your son.
