Best location for hotel in Annapolis

I'm planning to spend a couple of days in Annapolis, just for sightseeing. What would be the best location to stay in the city? I'll have a car (but prefer not to use it), so parking at the hotel is a consideration.

You want to be close to the harbor.

Whether or not you choose an historic inn, you do want to be within walking distance of the attractions.

Parking can be difficult in Annapolis.

I stayed at The Maryland Inn and loved it. The location was great.
The place reeks of history.
I enjoyed a few beers at The Middleton Tavern sitting in the same room enjoyed by Madison, Jefferson and Washington.

Thank you all for your replies.

I eventually opted for the Loews Annapolis hotel, an easy walk to the harbor area. The room I chose included free self or valet parking. The location and parking (both mentioned in your replies) were the deciding factors in the decision.
