Best hotel near Goucher College?

We will be visiting Goucher College next week. WOuld love to hear recommendations for a hotel very close to campus. We're planning on taking the train from NYC, so also would like taxi company recommendations for the area from the Amtrak station/to and from Goucher. Thanks!

There is a very nice Sheraton within walking distance of the school. Here's their info.
903 Dulaney Valley Road
Baltimore, Maryland 21204
Phone (410) 321-7400

Very good school by the way!

Weadles, that is too funny. I used to live a few miles from Goucher. I am pretty sure there is a Sheraton attached to the Towson Mall Complex. You could walk right over to Goucher from there.

Sorry, I don't remember the taxi companies.

You should eat at the Melting Pot in Towson.

It is Sheraton Baltimore North on Dulaney Valley Road. The same hotel that zztopz mentions.

Hi Weadles,
Cabs are lined up in front of the train station. Also, in Baltimore, there is a company called Freedom Services that we frequently use for airport transportation, nights out where we may be drinking, etc.
www.Freedomserv.com. Really great company and very safe drivers. They have a fleet of vehicles in all sizes depending on what you need. We hired them for our son and his friends when he turned 21.

I have also used Corporate Car. They have Lincoln Town Cars and limos. I don't have their website address but you can google them.

Have fun!

Checker Cabs (yellow ones) is the company you're likely to step into at Penn Station Baltimore after your train ride, although there are a few other companies there that were fine. I'd probably call them too from Towson.

Thank you so much, everyone for the helpful replies! Now if we can just get our son, aka The Mad Scientist, into Goucher, we'll have something to celebrate during this brutally cold winter!

Thin,

What were you doing in Towson or do I not want to know?!

Any thoughts on whether it's easier to fly or train to the area from NYC? Thanks!

Train- Acela only takes 2 hrs and 15 minutes. So relaxing. Also, do you know that if you get a porter in NYC to help you they will put you on the train before anyone else? No crazy stampede for the escalator.

Thanks, 309pbg! The Acela it is. I'm sure that's much better than sitting on the runway at La Guardia...

Be prepared for expensive taxi ride from Amtrak to Goucher. Also check with Goucher how far from the Administration building to the hotel. Most people use cars to get around there. Good luck with admission and the weather.

Elainee,

What is the cost roughly of the taxi from Amtrak to Goucher?

Thanks for your tips and good wishes!

To get back to the train station from the college (assuming you haven't already done it and come home), call Jimmy's Cab - (410) 296-7200. I can't vouch for their efficiency, but they're basically the only Towson-based cab company, and they are ubiquitous in the area.
