Best destination tip you have found on this forum

What is the best destination/activity tip you have gotten on this forum and acted on.

To lead off the discussion, here's mine

Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge.
This was something I never would have thought of doing without this forum. It was a great experience - especially the advice to walk FROM Brooklyn TO Manhatten so that you are looking at the NYC skyline during the walk. You walk on a special level for walkers/cyclists above the traffic, getting great views and not feeling threatened by traffic.

: ) That would have to one of mine as well. I have walked the bridge three times now.

* Staying at the Dolphin Bay in Hilo. Doubt I would have considered this on our own or known where to look for a place like that....saved a bundle of cash that I used for all of our activites.

Honey Island Swamp tour in NO. There are lots of these outfits to choose from, but this one was just our cup of tea.

Lastly, a tip that I ignored-- not to buy a full day ticket at PCC on Oahu. I deserved an I told you so for that one. Twilight ticket would have sufficed. Also, luau food is blah.

Isn't that interesting - the first thing I thought of when I saw the posting was "The Brooklyn Bridge walk!" It was something that never would have occurred to us, but on this forum we got descriptions, directions - everything we needed, and we had a fantastic time. Thanks, everybody!

The Fordorites who told us to purchase the travel guide The Milepost to plan our trip to Alaska. We did, and as a result we had the perfect trip.

I learned about the float trip on the Colorado River from Page, AZ. It was the highlight of our trip!

Well, well, well! Great minds and all of that! We've just got back from our trip and we too walked the Brooklyn Bridge after the recommend on this site. We went the whole hog though and rode the water taxi over to Fulton Street Ferry Pier, Brooklyn. Had fantastic pizza at Grimaldis. Saved enough room (that was difficult though) to have fabulous ice cream from the Brooklyn Ice Cream factory and THEN we walked the bridge. It was early evening and quite frankly the highlight of our stay in NYC. Thank you, thank you, fellow Fodorites!

Ooooh..sorry! Just wanted to add ANOTHER great tip we got for our trip was buying the MUNI 7 day passport in San Francisco. $20 gives you a weeks travel on everything except the BART. Bearing in mind that cable car journeys alone are $3 a trip, it saved us a bomb and saved us from digging out change each time we travelled.

I agree that there are too many to list. However, one that stands out is the tip that a poster on the European forum gave us regarding going into the side entrance of the Duomo in Florence, Italy in order to attend Sunday Mass. I would never have known otherwise.

Learned about Priceline and Hotwire here. Haven't paid full price for a hotel room since. We can now afford to travel more often. Thanks Fodorites!

All there is to know about the Utah National Parks, roads etc. by Utahtea

We will be traveling from VA to San Diego next month so our original thoughts were to continue on to Hawaii since we would be on the wst coast.

Reading the info Utahtea provided convinced us to do Grand Canyon and all the S Utah parks instead.
Thankyou Utahtea

Fodorites directed me to some beach towns on Highway 1 (mainly Laguna Beach) as day trips from Anaheim, where I was staying with a friend who was attending a convention. We had a blast! It was my first experience with this board, and I've been coming back for more ever since.

Although I haven't done it yet, I read a few weeks ago about winter carnival in Quebec. I looked into it, and my boyfriend and I are seriously considering going!

We'll have to see how it goes, but without this forum, I never would have thought to look for something like that.
