Best Captiva/Sanibel accomodations
Can't decide between South Seas Plantation or Casa Ybel for a trip for four adults and one toddler. My wife's main criteria are perfect beach, luxury pampering, very clean resort, and possibly activities for the toddler although at 2 years old he might be too young for kid's "organized activities." Need to keep the missus happy. Thanks.

Casa Ybel is not about luxury or pampering. If that truly is a priority, you might want to think about either the Ritz Carlton or the Registry down the road in Naples.
Casa Ybel has a nice beach, its units are clean and well managed. Luxury and pampering, no, and I don't know that South Seas Plantaion is much different, though we haven't stayed there.
We've enjoyed two stays at Casa Ybel, but our priorities are different. My husband runs a 4 star hotel in Tampa, our kids are grown (though they've both visited while we've gone to Sanibel), so we are looking for a quiet, laid back vacation in an atomosphere that doesn't smack of what he deals with every day...hotels. It fits the bill perfectly for us.

My husband and I have stayed at Casa Ybel twice and really like it. They may have in-room massages but that's it as far as pampering goes. We both went to the Sanibel day Spa for hot stone massages - wonderful! Minimum age for kids' activities is 3 and they must be potty trained. You may be able to arrange for a babysitter though. They have a great pool for the little kids. Southseas was $100 more per night for a comparable suite. I did not see one of their units, but it would have to be pretty spectacular to justify that price difference.

I may be deviating from your question but my vote is Sanibel. The bike paths on the island are phenominal. You can easily navigate the entire island via bike. On Captiva you will be taking your life in your own hands if you attempt to bike ride!! Be sure to visit Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge as well as the lighthouse (with a stop at Pinnochio's for ice cream!!!)while you are biking Sanibel.

Hopefully someone can tell you about the accommodations at South Seas; however, I spent a day there on a pass and the beach, water, and grounds were absolutely beautiful. I hope to stay there someday I think their website is www.southseasplantation.com. Good luck.

I have stayed at South Seas Plantation twice. The accomodations were very clean and comfortable.Didn't have any "pampering"but the beach was great. An excellent place for shelling.Clean beach and warm water. My children were also 10 and 11 years old when I went but they had a great time with the childrens activities and they even have some as family activities.Check the web site for a sample of activities. It is a great place.I would live there year around if I could.
