Instead of spending a day stuck in traffic, I recommend selecting a few places the group really wants to see (dividing up if interests vary) and using the subway to get around.

You don't say when you're coming or what day of the week. That matters because in the summer there are many parades and street fairs that can wreak havoc on traffic.

But I tend to agree that I can't think of a worst way to spend a single day in NYC than to do it on a bus paying $45 per person to ride around in traffic all day. And I can't begin to tell you about the lines trying to get back onto the buses when you try to get off to actually see something.

The idea of picking a couple of things to do is a strong one.

Do not waste your only day in NYC doing a bus trip. You will sit on traffic forever. You can see only form the top and so are subject to heat or rain - or cold/snow in winter. '

The HoHo buses are limited n where they can go because of size. (no Central Park, not in much of Greenwich Village and not on streets in other residential areas in Manhattan).

And if you get off to see anything you can wait an hour or more for another one to come along.

Much better to figure out what you want to do - and perhaps split into groups based on interests - and just go and see/do it.

and Staten Island Ferry is free (view but not VERY close of SoL) but the RT across the harbor takes more than an hour.
