On a recent visit to Las Vegas we didn't get to the Aladdin buffet, which someone in this column said was good,,,,however I KNOW the PARIS buffet is wonderful (and the "lunch" hour goes until 5:30 pm,,,and is almost the same food as dinner after 5:30 and $5 less). We've eaten there twice in the last two years. Also the Mirage is good and very diverse! And the Mandalay Bay is WONDERFUL also....certainly worth trying. THere's not much difference in paying $l6,$l8, or $20!

just got back and had the buffet at both Alladin and Bellagio. Definitely without a Q the Alladin wins. Larger selection and also a few bucks cheaper but the quality of the Alladin was excellant and they had food from 5 different countries. Their dessert bar was far superior as well. Service was great and the prime rib could be cut with a fork.

Heck, I get food from "5 different countries" at my local Denny's buffet right here in Arkansas, including
French Fries
Pizza
Eggrolls
and BBQ (from Texas. It's a whole other country I hear)
Who needs to travel to some Arabian owned casino in Nevada anyway.

The appeal (not my style, either, but I have friends who like buffets) is that it's self serve (take whatever you please in any amount you choose), wide variety of choices, fixed price.
You know, like going to an amusement park...if you had to pay separately for every ride, you'd spend a lot of time and mental energy weighing your options and being selective. Paying a fixed price for entry allows freedom of choice, unlimited helpings, you can try things you might not end up liking and you pay nothing extra, etc.
Personally, I refuse to eat the amounts of food my friends eat at those LV buffets. Would make me ill.
I'll take quality over quantity any day.
And even at the buffets with fair quality, I simply would never allow myself to eat enough food to justify the price. Just my view.

Just returned from Vegas and ate at about 8 buffets. For dinner, I highly recommend the Paris buffet - superb! (You have to line up to get tickets for it in the morning though) For breakfast, definately the Statosphere. It overwhelmingly had the best selection, 10X better than the Mirage, and was a great value at $6.99.

I heard Stratosphere has a new outdoor attraction on its lot and adjacent land, it's called "A Walk Through Beirut".
You pay $5, they fit you with a flak jacket and arm you with pepper spray, then they send you out onto the property to walk around....at your own risk.
Most everyone who enters during daytime comes back unharmed, I've heard.

I am surprised that only one person referred to the Gold Coast buffet. Purely on price, but also on variety, it is the best deal right now at $2.95 for breakfast. We ate there 3 days last week. We also ate once at Treasure Island for $7.95, and the variety was noway comparable. The Gold Coast is right next to the Rio, to which one can take a shuttle bus from Harrah's. The only caveat, be there before 8:30, after that the lines get quite long.
