best beach destin or fort walton

The more I research this area the more confused I get. Is there 1 area better than the other? In particular, is Crystal Beach area in Destin better than beaches of South Walton ,like Seacrest,Dune Allen,or Grayton. I would appreciate any help. Thanks. Going in August.2 adults no kids

Destin and Ft. Walton Beach are right next to each other and 1 beach is not better than the next. Destin is a more upscale area and not a lot of nightlife. Ft. Walton has more to do and is probably cheaper to stay at because it is not as popular as Destin.

Destin has way more to do than Fort Walton Beach. Unless you want to get something pierced or tattooed, then Ft. Walton is for you.

Fort Walton Beach actually has no beach. The beach is located on Okaloosa Island between Destin and Fort Walton. Those in lower incomes and on shoe-string budgets stay in Fort Walton Beach and drive over Okaloosa Island.

Okaloosa Island is basically a stretch of old, tacky motels and condos.

Destin is turning into a bunch of old, tacky motels and condos. Middle to upper income families vacation there. Way, way crowded due to very poor planning, greedy developers, and short-sighted council members. A good-ole-boy system at its worst. Crystal Beach is a community in Destin towards the east. Unless you are staying right on the beach, plan on hiking a few roads carrying all of your beach gear.

South Walton has a few high-rise mistakes, but they are mostly concentrated to the west in Sandestin and Miramar Beach. If you want to see what Destin used to be like stay in Grayton Beach, Dune Allen, Seaside or Seagrove. It's the new thing for those with money. Hopefully they won't ruin it like they did Destin

My husband and I and our 2 boys are going to that area the last week of July. We have stayed in Destin. The beaches are beautiful but it is expensive and crowded with condos and people. This is their high season so it is to be expected. One beach we really like is Navarre beach. It is east of Destin but the beaches are wide, emerald green and not near as many people. We have had good luck with Century 21 island view realty #1-800-757-2121. Give them your budget and requirements (like gulf-front) and they can usually find you something. We are staying in a 2B2B gulf-front on Navarre and I thought it was reasonable. Good luck!!

excuse my geographical screw-up!! Navarre Beach is located between Pensacola and Destin (which makes it west of Destin --- not east!!)
