I just remembered it today, answering another post. The Griffin Inn at Greenwood Cove in Elk, California, the northern coast en route to Montecito. 8 or so little cottages perched hanging out over the sea, clawfoot bathtubs with ocean view, wood burning stoves, Victorian brass bed and the best of all....a full gourmet breakfast delivered to your front porch at the hour of your choosing. And very affordable!

We liked the Bed and Breakfast Inn at La Jolla. Nice garden area, beautiful rooms, wonderful breakfast on pretty china. Somewhat expensive. We have stayed in some for less, but this one was the most charming.

I stayed at the Griffin Inn about 15 years ago. I don't know if it had the same name then but I certainly recognized the pictures on the website. It is a truly remarkable place in a stunning location. I doubt that the "super slow lane" is promoting their own inn. Not much to do in Elk but Mendocino is up the road a ways.

I stayed at the Griffin Inn a couple of years ago and couldn't have had a worse stay. One step above summer camp.

I live in Brazil and am not in the B&B business! super slow lane is what Elk is...very slow paced. The person who didn't like it must have stayed at a different Griffin Inn, not the one in Elk.

My wife and I stayed at the Griffin Inn in ELK early last summer.
Both of agree that it was pretty much a disappointment and a waste of our money. Also our room smelled like cat unrine. We asked for another room and discovered beer cans under the bed, in a drawer, and behind the toilet!!

Montecito on the coast is near Santa Barbara not near Elk which is near Mendocino. Very different locations and climates.

The Marquesa in Key West. Key West has several very good B&B's.

In order to know what the best B&B is anywhere you would have to stay in a lot of them, wouldn't you? Every small town and big city and country lane has a B&B in it or nearby. How could anyone know what is the best ANYWHERE? Any what are you looking for? I've stayed in one where city people could bring their kids for a little farmette experience with sheep and goat and a horse, etc. out back. They also had an awesome unique guitar collection mounted on the hallway walls. Now how could you compare that to a really neat Victorian manor filled up with wonderful antiques in a historic city location.

The Swag is in/near Asheville, North Carolina.

I once got called a 'ho' by a B&B owner. My husband came up to surprise me (I was on business) and the owner thought I was turning tricks in her B&B. Never again.

So when you explained the part about it being your husband she was apologetic or what? Would love to hear more. Love the B & B stories. People are sooooo quirky about "their" space!!!!

What happened was I was on business with a girlfriend (seperate rooms) we were leaving the B&B for an early breakfast meeting. I left my husband in the room and he was soaking in a bubble bath (it is 7:00 AM in the morning). She walks in on husband and loses it. Thinks I am a hooker. Meanwhile, I am in the street loading my breifcase in the trunk and she comes out on the porch and starts screaming at me. All the neighbors are wide awake and outside by this point. My girlfreind is laughing so hard she is peeing. Needless to say we checked out shortly after.
