Has anyone stayed here before and what did you think?

Thanks.

Yes, we loved the Bentley, have stayed there twice. But Stratford is in Ontario, which should be posted on the Canada board.
Or were we supposed to be mind readers figuring out where in the world you're talking about?

I've stayed at the Bentley in NYC on the Upper East Side. It's very nice, although the basic rooms are quite small and best-suited for one person. The hotel is far east, a hike to the 59th street subway stop, but taxis are readily available. Also easy walk to most midtown shopping/sites. Great neighborhood.
Very reasonably priced.

I'm sorry but I meant the Bentley hotel in NYC.

Thank you Tom for your comments.

There is no need to be nasty. It was my first time using this board.

Hi Chocomom, sorry to say a some people forget their manners when using this board. However, I saw some comments on TripAdvisor and everyone mentioned that the breakfast was very good, staff was friendly, rooms were clean, one person commented that it may be out of the way for a 'non-New Yorker' but a great neighborhood nonetheless, away from mid-town madness. Sounds to me like it would be a nice place to stay! Have a great trip.

"no need to be nasty".?????????

Would someone point out the nasty comments?
Was it saying "I know of at least two Bentley's"? Now that is one of the rudest nastiest comments ever made.

Or was it asking if we are supposed to be mindreaders? Outrageous that anyone should stoop to such namecalling. Mindreaders? Probably the worst insult in the English language!

Actually cocomom, it seems pretty clear that these posters were trying to help you understand how the board works. And they did it very politely. If you are that easily offended, then you'd better go elsewhere, cause you haven't seen anything to be called nasty yet.

We had a wonderful stay at The Bentley in NYC. Compact but simple, lovely rooms. Great penthouse breakfast lounge. Comp breakfast & espresso all day! About a 20 min walk to Rockefeller Center. But many good shops & restaurants nearby. Next to the river. Nice to be on a quieter street when visiting such a hectic city. Found a good rate via quikbook.com.

Chocomom: I'd stay somewhere closer to the center of things. The Bentley is in a nice residential neighborhood but far east of where most tourists want to be. Try to get something west of 3rd Avenue, the Bentley is in a very quiet area, (except for traffic) east of 1st Avenue and not one I believe most tourists would be happy with. Unless the rate is so attractive that it can't be matched elsewhere, I would consider booking something else.

Thank you for your advice. I will give Bentley a try-it a really good deal-$113/nite taxes included.

We used to stay at the Millenium Hilton before 9/11.

Hi chocomom - the rate you secured is VERY reasonable! We will be traveling to NYC next month, do you mind if I ask you how you made your reservations? Did you call the Bently direct or use their website or something like quickbook.com? I'd like to try to stay here, I love the neighborhood. Thanks!

<<Are were we supposed to be mind readers figuring out where in the world you're talking about?>>

Good grief lighten up! This questions was posted on the NEW YORK CITY board. I'm sure this person didn't realize it showed up anywhere else and should of mentioned where The Bentley was located.

I'd like to apologize, to this poster, for any rude replies. The majority of the people who take the time to answer these questions have some manners!

There's no NEW YORK CITY board. New York state perhaps. And all posts end up in the big ol' generic United States forum so it's always necessary to mention a city/state.

Kudos to Sarah, and I second what she said. I would also like to add that if you read a post, and can't figure out where the hotel or restaurant, etc. is that that poster is asking about - skip the post and let someone answer it who has knowledge of it. We don't need the "posting police" EVERYTIME a person asks a question and doesn't include location information. Like Sarah said, you can be reading about "New York" and post a question, not realizing that it also shows up on "the big general list". If you don't understand a post, or are bothered by a question, PLEASE skip it.

Excuse my big ol' mistake. I NEW YORK not NEW YORK CITY! If someone clicks on NEW YORK and then clicks on GO they get all questions/replies related to NY. So, anyone not familiar with the workings of this area would assume they were posting on a NY board. My point being - give these people a break. They come here for help and advice -not to be attacked for a simple mistake.

And - - thank you Dan for backing me up here. I do agree putting state/city info in your subject line is important but bashing people who don't is hardly necessary. Don't you love people who jump all over everyone for minor errors but don't have the guts to sign their names?

I'm visting NYC [from the UK] to get married during March and have used this forum to gather some very useful information. However, I am slightly worried by some of the posts I've read recently. Is there a select band of people in NYC that wait in silence for unsuspecting visitors to point out their naivety whilst maintaining anonymity themselves? On the other hand, there do appear to be some of the more considerate and reasonable types loitering [salutations Sarah] so maybe my forthcoming trip won't be so bad! Be nice for pity's sake!

Greetings to you and PLEASE don't hesitate to visit NYC. I do not live in NY but visit every chance I get. All my experiences have been wonderful including the people I've met.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

Enjoy all NYC has to offer. You won't regret it for one minute.

Thank you Sarah!

It was my first time using the board and like you said thought I was posting only in the NY section. There is only one Bentley in NY according to their site.

I found most of the advice very helpful but the rudeness are always hiding behind anonominity.

Thank you once again for sticking up for us newbies.

JTAYLOR,

I'd booked this room through www.HotelKingdom.com. They guarantee to beat anyone's prices.

Good Luck.
