We stayed there two nights last summer for our son's wedding. It's very spare in appearance, rather Art Deco, but enjoyable. Location is close to downtown. Good bar, continental breakfast, valet parking, very friendly staff. I don't know if their restaurant is open yet. Walk down the hill to look at the swimming pool--nice view of the skyline.

We spent Labor Day weekend there. I love the Belmont and it's staff, the bar, and the whole idea of what they are creating - so I chose to support it; I live in Dallas. That weekend, they were at almost full occupancy.
There is really nothing in the immediate area, as yk said. No where to walk to...but close to Bishop Arts District that's a hopping neighborhood with restaurants and eclectic shops.
There's easy access into downtown along Ft. Worth Ave/Commerce. It's out of the major traffic pattern - it's easy to get to.

Pepper, one of the things DART rail is considering is running a light rail service along the West Commerce/ Ft Worth Avenue corridor. There is also a lot of interest among neighborhood groups into transforming the corridor into a densely populated and beautiful urban avenue... something like a boulevard in a European city.
Much of this impetus comes from the imminent construction of the beautiful new suspension bridge across the Trinity River by the architect Santiago Caltrava. Since the bridge will carry traffic into the Ft Worth Avenue corridor, the immediate neighborhood should start getting its share of urban development, along with Uptown and the East Dallas areas.
