Everywhere I read it say that Bellagio is the best hotel in Vegas. From what I understand, there are a lot of really nice hotels in Vegas, so what is it that puts Bellagio above the rest?

Bellagio is the best overall hotel for a number of reasons: great location (much better than Mandalay and Four Seasons), very well done rooms and suites with all the current necessities for a top end hotel, great selection of restaurants, great theme with manmade lake and unique fountain attraction, very uniquely upscale feeling casino which is large but doesn't feel cavernous due to design, the best room service I've had in LV.
Anything else one could (reasonably) ask for?

The attention to detail is amazing - from the rooms to the restaurants to the casino. It is a beautiful place. Every corner was well thought out. Nothing compares to it.

I love the Bellagio because kids are not allowed!! They have some kind of rule and it really cuts down on the children running around with out their parents- yelling and hollaring! Also everything is just the best! The fresh squeezed juices, no sound on the slots, excellent house keeping , you name it!!!
P.s. for those of you ready to jump all over- I like kids, just not running around in a casino out of control!!

Where else did you stay? I have never seen kids running around in any hotel I've stayed at in Las Vegas. Of course I've never stayed at the Circus Circus. As for hotels, Bellagio is a fine hotel. But, there are several fine hotels in Las Vegas. None of them is perfect for everything. It's a matter of your needs and tastes.

Unfortunately Las Vegas is no longer an adult funland. The casinos have sold out and have encouraged too many kids. I love kids, but there should be one place that is just for adults. When I was growing up, Las Vegas was something that you looked forward to getting to see when you were 21. Now there are kids running through places like the MGM, Mandalay Bay, NY NY, etc. Congrats to Bellagio to holding firm and keeping up the no kids policy.

Gerry, I have stayed at the Mirage, Flamingo Hilton, Aladdin, Tropicana, Treasure Island and Harrah's. And unfortunately "yes" some parent let there kids run around like it was a playground. I go to Vegas for the whole "sin city" thing so I do enjoy mainly adult environments. This includes restaurants, pool areas, etc. Again, I'm not down on kids- just looking for a different vegas environment!

However, the overall level of service is much more professional. As stated, it is a hotel with a casino and not the other way around.

I have stayed at Golden Nugget, Mirage, Treasure Island, Sahara, Riviera and Orleans and have never seen kids running around the casino or hotel. Circus Circus and Excalibur were full of kids. I agree that kids have absolutely no business in a casino. Parents who whould allow this are both inconsiderate and irresponsible. The problem is that if a hotel allows children as hotel guests, the hotel design means that they can't get to their room without going through the casino. And, yes I have seen children in the Bellagio too.

Personally, I prefer Paris. And you can watch the Bellagio water show from your window.

I have seen kids at all the hotels that I have been to in Vegas. I can't believe Gerry has never seen any kids. But just for the record. Children of hotel guests are allowed at Bellagio. If you are not a guest, you can't bring your children in. If I was traveling with my kids, I don't think I would want to stay somewhere that discourages children which is probably their idea.

I didn't say I didn't see any kids. Quite the contrary. I didn't see any kids "running around without their parents- yelling and hollering" as Wendy described except at Circus Circus and Excalibur. I saw children in all of the casinos including the Bellagio who where going to and from their rooms with their parants. I have never been in a casino that allowed children to run alone in a casino. This would be in clear violation of Nevada law.

Kids these days have a lot more discretionary income. I'm sure they really make the slots ring!

I haven't actually stayed there but I booked my mom there last year. She said it was the nicest hotel she'd ever stayed at.

We stayed at the Mandaly Bay when it first opened and liked the hotel a lot, unfortunately it's a long way from the center of the strip. We ended up taking cabs a lot to get home at night. But the cabs were really reasonbly priced.

Stayed at the Flamingo last year, yucchhhh. Nasty room, nasty casino, pool smelled like bird doodoo.

Best value, stayed at Bally's this summer, I think it cost $63 a night. The room was recently remodeled and was huge!!!! We wanted to stay at the Paris hotel but the cost was twice as much. When I balked at the price the receptionist suggested Bally's which is connected by the casino. I'm really glad we chose Bally's, who can tell when you get inside, except for the room which was great.

On another note, my daughter lost the key to my new BMW while we were there but we really didn't know where we lost it. Called Bally's, got excellent immediate polite service, they found my key (replacement cost of $100) and fed-exed it to me the next day.

The Bellagio still has that "Las Vegas "style that so many of the other hotels have lost or never had..I used to go to Las Vegas when you got dressed up to go gambling at night, and the restaurants were all dressy, not one child in sight anywhere, it was an adults only kind of place and fun.Now in order to bring in the families and money, they are making some of the resorts kid friendly, too often to the annoyance of grown ups, when you are in a casino and betting lots of money, that last thing you want to see or hear is a pack of kids running around in their bathing suits screaming and yelling, and they do! At the Rio, Mandalay Bay, the Mirage, and stay away from the kiddyland resort-Excalibur!! I heard that Steve Wynn tripped over a kids stroller in the casino one day and that was when the rule was really enforced, no kids~now I have two, and I like them and their friends, but I don't want to go to Las Vegas with them...or anyone elses..so that is why we love the Bellagio, besides the fact that for some reason, we always win big there
