Beaver Creek
Hi All,
I will be leaving for Beaver Creek on Saturday for 5 days. I have NEVER been to Colorado. (Can you believe it??) I would love to hear about a few "must dos" while I am there. I am in my 30's, very active (marathoner, so strenuous hiking, etc. are great!), love wine/food, horseback riding, etc. I'm up for anything! Staying at the Ritz Carlton while I'm there and will not have a car.
Thanks!!!

You might be limited with no car in the summertime. I'd check with the Ritz and see what kind of transportation they can arrange for you. Inside the entire resort they do have a free call-a-ride program but Beaver Creek is really not that large.
Check out the events calendar for what might be going on at the Vilar Performing Arts Center while you are there. I'm sure the concierge at the Ritz can help here too.
Hiking on the mountain can be fun but I'd only do one day of that. There are lots of great, and I do mean great, hiking trails near Vail and Beaver Creek but I think you'd need a car to drive to most trail heads. We did do a hike up the mountain at Beaver Creek a few years ago to a lake - it was gorgeous once you got there but not too scenic along the way. One of my favorite hikes in the area is Missouri Lakes trail but it's about a 30 or 45 minute drive from Beaver Creek.
If you'll be there on a Saturday morning and can arrange transportation, go to the Minturn Market. It's a farmers market with the usual fresh produce and flowers but also some entertainment and things to eat for breakfast or lunch and some art and jewelry. You can rent a mountain bike and the ski lift takes you and the bike up the mountain and then you can ride down. I'm sure if you want something more challenging you can ride the bike up the mountain!
Enjoy, we'll be going to Frisco this year in Summit County but I'll make a day or two for Vail, Minturn & Beaver Creek.

I'd have no trouble at all finding things to do for 5 days. You'll find lots of info on activities on this website:
http://beavercreek.snow.com/info/summer/rst.asp
Hiking
Biking (rentals available)
Horseback riding
Golf
Vail Music Festival
Summer concert series
Culinary demonstrations
The fabulous spa at the Ritz!
You'll also see there are free shuttles and city bus service. You'll have no trouble getting around.

Hi Erin,
Beaver Creek and the Ritz are both fabulous! We've really enjoyed our time there. There are free shuttles that will take you around the area, including the village with shops and restaurants. Right out the back of the Ritz are tons of hiking options - they are the ski runs in the winter and great hiking trails in the summer. There is also mountain biking nearby. We've also enjoyed biking on a nice trail from Avon to Edwards (7-8 miles away). The Ritz arranged for us to rent bikes from a nice shop in town and drove us down the hill to pick them up. We ate at Grouse Mountain Grill on the mountain and it was wonderful. Enjoy your trip!
