Beaches in Delaware
Does anyone have any ideas for large family reunion for June 2002. 8 families with kids and elderly parents. Condo's, houses, lodging that could accomodate us. Would like close to the beach, not on a busy street, possibly a porch for the great evenings.would prefer a quiet spot, but not too quiet in case some family members would like to go out for the evening and for the girls to shop. Any ideas on airports, since the majority of the family will be flying in from the midwest and west coast. Any help would be appreciated. This reunion is for our sister who is turning 50! Thanks

Why Delaware? How about Cape May NJ. It's a ferry ride from Lewes Delaware and is a nice quiet resort, but a short drive to Wildwood for the younger members, with plenty of action available. Philadelphia would probably be the closest airport to Delaware or New Jersey beaches.

Just read the latest issue of Washingtonian magazine, highlighting "Weekends," and they gave the name and number of 2-3 houses in Rehoboth that specialize in reunions and sleep from a dozen to two dozen. I don't have the magazine with me, but write back and if you want the info., I'll post tomorrow (or e-mail you). Rehoboth is a GREAT town for a reunion, lots of great eating, shopping, and lots for kids to do.

You should definitely look into Rehoboth Beach. Lost of rental houses on quiet streets in walking distance to beach and boardwalk. Well-known shopping outlets about a 5 minute drive away. A waterpark for the kids. Decent nightlife and great restaurants. Greay family environment. Also good driving distance to dewey beach, lewes beach and Ocean City, Maryland. I dont know about the nearest airport. We always drove down.

If you have a big group and want a fun meal that all ages will enjoy, be sure to go down to Dewey and eat at Crabber's Cove. The restaurant is under roof but open air on the water, lots of fun water activities going on to watch (jet skis, etc.), good seafood, fried chicken, etc. etc., kids eat for $1.00, and huge fabulous daquiries and margaritas. You can even catch the Ruddertowne trolley in Rehoboth and ride down, which is fun. It's a little corny but a good family thing to do in Rehoboth. I often see a huge family group eating together there, like 20 people at a table, so they can handle a crowd.
