I hope they strike. The really disgusting thing is how an outrageous system like they have needs the taxes of working-class people to pay for their venues. What a ridiculous set-up! Here's hoping they blow it all up and their empire crumbles under the weight of its own greed and ridiculous economics.

SO MUCH FOR SPORTS HEROES! Maybe they should try a REAL job and try to buy tickets that costs a week's salary to take their kids to a game!

Can't blame the players for taking the outrageous money. It's the idiots who pay them that are the problem.
As far as a strike, let them go. They are slowly striking out with the fans.

Are you calling me an idiot? If I don't pay these guys these salaries, then the other guy will!? The problem is that all you suckers are willing to put up with all of the ads staring you in the face at the park and on tv while you watch my team play ball. If the mouse can bilk two or three franklins out of a family for a day's entertainment, then surely the Yanks can bilk you for one? Ha Ha! Suckers!

batter,
can't blame the "idiots" either. as george says, we're the real idiots for supporting the whole mess. i'm with Braves; it's time for the fans to strike. and not just MLB. the NBA and NFL are just as bad or worse.

Fans have the say here. Fans need to strike for a few weeks and leave the bleachers empty. This will be the wakeup call baseball needs. But feel free to attend the minor league games. They are more fun and intimate anyway, and they don't break the bank.

I do care if they strike. Personally, I don't follow baseball one bit, but when I think of all the people who will be hurt by the strike I get angry. The minimum wage vendors, the ticket takers, the security etc. These people will be losing their jobs and don't have the big bucks that the players have to keep them going.

It's hard to side with the players when they could buy and sell most of the people watching. My heart just breaks for them.

When I think of what teachers, police, the military make in a years time and what we demand of them, then read where someone has signed a contract for several million to stand in centerfield, scratch his crotch and spit, makes one wonder just why they even think of striking.
Good riddance if they do.

One minimum wage job is exactly like the next, so don't feel bad for the "little guy" workers. Unfortunately, there are plenty of corporations that are only too happy to minimum wage or less to their workers. They'll find new jobs in no time.

As for the players, WHO THE HELL cares what happens to them? It's entertainment for God's sake, nothing more. Baseball is another symptom of American arrogance and greed, and it's about to collapse upon itself.

Are they on strike yet????!! If so, good!! let them stay on strike. Sports fans, don't despair....college football has begun, the NFL is about to start, hockey and pro basketball is about 2 months away.
If there is a strike, all baseballs fans should stay away once, if, they ever resume the season.

As far as blame goes, I can't fault the players for taking the money offered. But I can criticize them for whining. I can blame the agents/lawyers for forcing the owners into contracts that no one can afford just to stay competitive. these agents get paid on the size of the contract as well so it is in the best interest to run the size up.Regarding drug testing, whats the problem, drugs are illegal and the players dont want to be tested? And steroids are cheating. so the players are striking over something that is dishonest and illegal. Not good for the pastime. Lets go PATS.

Well, looks like there won't be a strike after all. The kickoff of the strike was to be the Cubs/Cards game at Wrigley this afternoon. As of yesterday, they were saying the gates wold not even be unlocked for fans to get in and wee advising people not to make the treck to the friendly confines.

HOWEVER, Fox News Chicago (if you go on their word) just announced that an agreement was imminent and pursuant to that teh gates to Wrigley would be opening for fans in a short while. They didn't say for sure that the teams would play but definitely insinuated it. They also said Cubs would be having batting practice today.

Who cares? Baseball could go away and people in 95% of the nation wouldn't really care.

I have Tiger/White Sox tickets for tomorrow night's game. I hope they play as I could have taken off to Traverse City for a nice long weekend vacation if they should strike. Guess we will hear the big news at 1:00 PM Eastern Time today.

Happy Trails,
Paul
