bars/music in Seattle?

Hi,

I'll be visiting Seattle in about a month and was wondering about some underground bars, eateries or places to see live music. I'm basically just looking for some places to hang out a bit of the beaten path.

No live music, but The Hideout is a great, off the beaten path "experimental" bar.

I also like the Tractor in Ballard for live music.

If you like espresso or just want to go somewhere that is partially reponsible for the Seattle coffee movement, Vivace

The Croc closed its doors suddenly last month, Suze--financial problems.

Too bad about the Croc...had a lot of memories for me. I expect to see a Walgreen's or Starbucks in there shortly.

Really??? Now that is especially embarrassing since I drive past it every day on my way home from work and didn't notice! I better pay more attention to my surroundings!!

Great. I'm going to try out all these places. I don't need underground, I just like to get a good flavor for a city. I find if you resort to asking around once you arrive, you are thrown only safe suggestions. Right now, all I know is to pack my umbrella!

Once you arrive pick up copies of The Stranger and The Seattle Weekly. They are both free weekly newspapers you'll find around town & have complete entertainment listings.

The Seattletimes.com also has an Entertainment section. They had an article about Chop Suey and Crocodile yesterday.

A question--how young are you? If you're in your twenties, I'll ask DD for her reccomendations.

Here's the link to The Stranger's music section.
http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/G...h=music&thru=N

You can also follow the tabs under the "Get Out" section for restaurants and bars, etc.

The Seattle Weekly is more mainstream and you have to check the calendar on the right side for upcomming events.

Enjoy your visit!

This doesn't help the OP, but it's a memory trip for those of us who were around the scene back in the day: http://tinyurl.com/2292az

<sigh> Good times.

best cocktails in seattle can be had at Vessel and at Zig Zag- neither have music but if you sit at the bar and engage the bartenders you will have a great time
