Bars in Memphis with SOUL
I like the blues, but what I really like is soul. I take it there are bars where I can still see some local legends of Southern soul when I'm in Memphis. Any recommendations? I don't mind if they're too far into the wrong end of town.

Martin- a couple of web sites to try: www.memphismojo.com, more of an insiders guide, and www.memphisflyer.com, the alternative weekly paper. Also, every Friday there is a section of the Memphis paper, the Commercial Appeal, called the Playbook with listings for weekend happenings. You might look through that as well.

Definitely, Rum Boogie on Beale. There are no better soul music bars in Memphis, in any part of town. Also, Isaac Hayes' place has good local music most of the time. It is around the corner from Beale St. in Peabody Place (an "entertainment superplex" mall with a Jillian's, movie theater, shopping, etc.) BB King's is generally overrated, and it seems odd that when he is in town, he plays at the casinos down the road in Tunica, MS.
