Austin, you really SAID that?? I know it felt good, but YIKES.
I probably shouldn't tell this, but our son worked front desk summers between semesters at school. What he learned in that job will carry him far down the road in successful career advancement. (And it seems to be working as he's thus far survived all Sprint's IT layoffs) He says the most valuable lesson he learned when confronted by a less than rational guest was to be able smile the big smile, look into their eyes, say all the right conciliatory appeasing words, do what is expected, while all the time thinking, "you total -----jerk" and laughing to himself...and truly NOT letting it get to him. That would be the part where I'd fall down.
There are some good hotel stories. Here's a mild example. Picture this: one of our employees in Savannah, fiddling with the channel selection switch that controls the lobby monitors...you know the ones that show the hotel and all that's going on that day..switched it so the monitor was instead showing a porn movie, in the lobby wall. Well, we think it was an error....No telling how long it had been running before someone, outraged, notified the front desk--(who then had to keep a straight face of course, and appear appropriately shocked)!

First of all, my Golden Retriever is far better behaved than most people's children.
Second- Constant dog barking is disturbance of the peace. Jim, you should check the laws in your town regarding this. I had seen a 20/20 episode about bad neighbors, and among the stories were dogs that barked constantly. This particular town had something called a "Liveability Court", and had a person appointed to fine those who had dogs constantly barking.
A dog's constant barking is not the dogs fault. It is laziness on the owner's part to train the dog to be obedient.
And although I love my dog, and think of him as a member of my family, I would never dream of flying with him. How stressful for an animal!
Please don't lump all dogs and dog owners in one category. I don't lump all children and their handlers in one!

So Jim,
Should they de-bark all dogs? You know take their larynx out? Or should we have no-dog neighborhoods? What is your solution to barking dogs in your neighborhood? We already heard from others how you can avoid the hotels that take pets. I think you have issues you need to sort out. There is no way you can get rid of all dogs of the world. And almost all dogs bark.

How do they get away with allowing dogs in the passenger area of planes? Sheesh, they took away our peanuts because maybe, just maybe, some idiot might be allergic and eat the peanuts anyway, but I know alot more people allergic to dogs than peanuts...
