Barking dogs everywhere, motels and planes!
It seems like every where I go, there are barking dogs. At home my neighbors on both side have small dogs that bark all the time, day and night. We took a vacation to get away from the noise-NO.
On the plane to Orlando someone had brought their small dog onto the plane in a special container, it barked and barked and barked all the way fror the entire 3 hour flight.
Once we got to Orlando we stayed at a nice HOTEL and was put next to someone who brought two dogs with them, both took turns barking day and night in the room. When i called to complain the hotel manager told me that there were full and he could not get me a new room. Hotel policy allowed dogs in the room, I was told.
Dog rights are everywhere, how about rights of humans to get wawy from the noise!

I have to agree. We moved from a neighborhood where the peoples dogs barked constantly next door, and behind us. We moved to an expensive neighborhood only to have 2 barking dogs again on one side of us. You would think after 1 year they would KNOW you and not bark anymore. If you go for a walk, they are all behind electric fences, but they run up scare you half to death, and bark. Everywhere I go there are also barking dogs. I am also sick of it!

Yes, exactly! Aren't they the most stupid and annoying creatures ever?? Would you much rather have a nice, clean, quiet and hassle-free feline around the house? Those stupid d-gs with their dirty paws and constant barking and walkies are so yesterday. Cats rule!

Welcome to the world of self-absorbed pet owners, Jim.
I can attest from experience that in a hotel the policy is as follows: you pay extra for the dog. You do not, however, pay for the barking, and yet many dog owners think they've done just that. At the hotel where I work we once had a very obnoxious woman from Mt. Laurel, NJ (I will remember that until my dying day) who paid the required extra $10 per day for her little mongrel rat. We gave her a room near the back exit, one of our handful of pet-friendly rooms back there, and told her that if she were to leave the property, the mongrel rat must go with her, and that if she did leave the mongrel rat in the room the housekeepers would not go into her room.
What did she do but leave the mongrel rat in the room and go traipsing off to enjoy the Apple Festival, for up to eight hours at a stretch! The mongrel rat was not happy about this situation and barked continuously the entire eight hours, while the front desk switchboard was blinking like a Christmas tree because of other rooms calling the front desk and complaining of the noise.
I finally had enough and posted a list of complaining rooms on her door -- all 15 of them. She retaliated the next day with a sign of her own reading, "This is a PET room! (cute pawprint drawing beneath this) We paid EXTRA for our PET ROOM!! (much underlining)
And that night, she came up to the front desk, complaining that the housekeepers hadn't cleaned her room, and that she had never received such "piss poor" -- direct quote -- service in a hotel before. And naturally enough, this complaint was made quite loudly in front of three parties of guests waiting to check in.
To make a long story short, we got into a verbal disagreement that culminated in me telling her that, "Frankly, ma'am, I hate to sound vulgar, but I'm counting the seconds until you get back on your broom and haul your wicked green ass back up to Mt. Laurel, New Jersey -- and your little dog too."
This caused those in the waiting parties to start snickering, which was not appreciated by the owner of the mongrel rat. Finally she stormed out of the lobby and all the waiting parties checked in, all requesting rooms as far away as possible from the owner of the mongrel rat.
And what is the moral of this little tome? This: It's only further proof that when most people travel, they forget to pack their clues, and often leave their common sense behind at rest stops. If you want to avoid dog noise on your travels your only option, probably, is to bring along a tranquilizer gun, or possibly a club to use on the dogs, and possibly the owners if they get snippy. Self-absorbed and utterly clueless pet owners are only going to continue to traverse the country with their little darlings, oblivious to the rest of us who might actually want to vacation without the yipping of mongrel rats to disturb us.

One thing I hate is my friends who have dogs always seem like they have to "educate" me on how safe they are around my kid. They'll invite us both over and then let these huge dogs run around right in my child's face. If I try to pick the child up and get it away from the dog or caution the child not to pet the dog or get in its face I get this "the dog is safe, he loves kids" or "does your son have a fear (read "un-natural fear) of dogs?" No. But in my opinion dogs and kids, particulary strange dogs, don't mix so don't force your doggy politics on my child's personal safety.
YEs yes has nothing to do with travel but I'm very irritated with dog pushers today.
