BARBARY COAST-LAS VEGAS

Any views on this place? Looking through the travel sites on the web, this place sounds nice. Cheapovegas.com one of the sites often mentioned here on this travel talk) seems to be really complimentary on the place. Rates of $59 a night sound like a bargain, especially for the location, are they?

The Barbary Coast does have an excellent location but it is an older building that had an elevator fall. I would check rates, lots of hotels have good shuttle services that bring you to the strip. New Orleans is one that comes to mind.

If you want cheap and good location, you can't beat the Barbry. Although don't feel left out when you see the towering, ivory towers of the 5 other hotels nearby: Bellagio, Caesar's, Mirage, Treasure Island... You might feel left out if you care about hotel quality. If you're just being thrifty - then go for Barbry. If you want a little better quality, book a room at the Flamingo, Harrah's or the Tropicana.

Personally I've found that staying away from the strip diminishes my enjoyment of a LV vacation...even places like the LV Hilton, Rio and Hard Rock. It's just so much nicer to be able to walk out the front door and be on the strip.
But it's certainly cheaper to stay a few blocks away if that's an issue.

Dave: Cheapovegas.com rates the rooms at the Barbary Coast better than any of the places that you mention. It also rates it as an excellent value, the only hotel on the strip that is rated excellent, Any comments?

Don my husband and I have stayed at the Barbery Coast 4 times and love it there. We are 40 yrs old and 4 children. Barbery does not have kids running around very quiet. The rooms are big and we always ask for a view of the Bellagio. We'll sit on the window sill with the window open drinking champagn and watching the water show it is wonderful. The casino has been very good to us service wise and the most money we have won has always been there. The restaurant has the best prime rib dinner and late night breakfast. We love the location and some people think the building looks old but that is the ambiance of the place. It is century period decor and they do that to give the feeling of the way Vegas use to be. Wouldn't stay any where else because we have and always want to go back. If you go ask for a room overlooking the Bellagio. Good Luck!
