Bar Harbor Inn or Bluenose Inn
I've narrowed our choices down to these two inns and I'm hoping someone who knows both can recommend one over the other. I've looked at the websites and at Trip Advisor, but what I'm hoping for is a comparison/contrast that'll nudge me in one direction over the other. This will be for 2 or 3 nights in very early June. Thanks!

I've never been inside the Blue Nose Inn, but we've stayed MANY times at the Bar Harbor Inn. I am comfortable saying STAY AT THE BAR HARBOR INN (BHI)!
The BHI is right on the waterfront and right in the village, but removed enough to be a lovely and quiet place to stay.
The BHI has 3 sections. We usually stay in the oceanfront lodge. Each room has a balcony looking out over the bay.
The Newport building has no waterview, so we never stay there.
The main inn building has lovely rooms, some with balconies overlooking the water. Others have garden/pool view.
I highly recommend the Bar Harbor Inn, but you'll have to act soon if you want to reserve 2 or 3 nights there in June. It fills up early.

Kathleen-- again, thanks for your replies. Did you look at both main inn and lodge and decide you liked lodge accommodations better? How do the views compare? And the privacy?
Also: Do you have a favorite restaurant in the area? Do you think the one at the restaurant is very good? (We usually prefer to eat somewhere other than where we're staying-- though sometimes the "In-house" restaurant really is exceptional.)
Thanks again for your very helpful replies.

hi poss, advise bar harbor inn too. bhi restaurant is outstanding, so i would try it for one fancy/dressy dinner anyway.
re: lodge vs hotel. when you go to the website homepage, the big pic is of the main part of the hotel. the hotel is old and the rooms done with antiques. the lodge is a 2 story motel-style sort of building, but is a bit closer to the water than the hotel section. also the rooms are a bit smaller and have regular beds as opposed to 4 poster beds. of note for you is that both sections have king beds!!!
views are great from both. i prefer the lodge as you can see less of the town lights from there. privacy is about the same. although you can walk right out of the lodge rooms and in hotel you have to walk through the lobby area. (be sure to take a stroll down the shore path - walk by the "cottages").
if you have time please take a ride over to the schoodic section of acadia. really dramatic drive around a penisula with plenty of viewing pull-offs - take a lunch. this is what acadia looked like once...(and it's windy so will help keep the state bird/black flies away)

Thanks for the additional in-put.
Virginia: I believe that in the main inn, one gets either four poster bed or fireplace, not both? Those corner rooms look great (I love the idea of double views/more windows/larger balcony) and they're the ones that I believe have the four posters. But they don't have fireplaces. I think a fireplace would be lovely at the time we'll be there (end of May). You say that the main building is "old" and has lots of antiques. While I love handsome old buildings, I don't especially enjoy staying in them, UNLESS they're nicely updated. My sense is that the actual bedrooms in the inn are in fact new and that the bathrooms are quite large and modern. Do you know if that's correct? In short, I'm still trying to decide whether to book in the main inn or the lodge. If I knew which had the thickest walls, so that we'd be less likely to hear neighbors, I'd for sure book there. By the way, it'll be my husband's birthday on our first night there (77!), so I'm hoping for an especially lovely visit. And we will definitely make resrvations at the inn's restaurant one of the nights. (Where else?) And visit Schoodic!
