Banner Elk, NC

We will be attending my mother's 51st high school reunion from Crossnore and will be staying in Banner Elk this July. Any ideas for local restaurants in the area? We are looking for down home places with alot of local character.

Thanks,

Cheryl

One would imagine that with names like "Crossnore" and "Banner Elk" any places to eat would be "down homne"--not flaming--just interesting names--what part of the state?

They are in the Blue Ridge Mountains area. Other fun name of a town in the area is Montezuma.

Well, you may like the family style meals at the Dan'l Boone Inn in Boone, NC
http://www.danlbooneinn.com/

A pricier option, but very very good is the restaurant at the Mast Farm Inn in Valle Crucis -

Be sure to stop at one of the Mast General Stores. GREAT candy!
My favorite is the original one in Valle Crucis - (Valley of the Cross)

Check out tripadvisor.com. There are some Banner Elk restaurants reviewed there. I just end up eating in Boone or Valle Crucis when I'm in that neck of the woods.

Boone has a wide range of restaurant option - just about anything you could want. But, the two I mentioned earlier are the closest I know of to what you are asking for. Have fun! It's a gorgeous part of the country!

Banner Elk Cafe! We used stop there after basketball games at Lees-McRae. I'd say it has character. You might also find something on Beech Mtn. If you do, please post a review.
