We stayed at Wyndham "Inner Harbor" which is much farther out from Inner Harbor than others. However, it was only about a 5-6 block walk, was a great hotel, and we got an unbeatable rate. View was of an office building and some homeless people at night, but I actually would stay there again - we had 1 large and 1 huge adjoining rooms. Bathrooms are a little small. Doormen, bellhops, valet parkers - all at front door - were all able to give correct and reasonable directions on several occasions.

hi! my husband and i have stayed at the renaissance and really liked it.it's the best location i think to the inner harbor itselg.the windows lounge is very nice with a great view.we also stayed at the new marriott waterfront and it was very nice.rooms were very nice.we would stay at both places again.the marriott waterfront is alittle bit of a walk, however.i can't speak for the hyatt.we just had a drink there and don't know what the rooms are like.while you're there, check out the harbor court hotel.hampton's restaurant is special.any questions,i.e.restaurants etc. let me know as we were just there 1 month ago.........

I have stayed at Hyatt twice, and the Renaissance three times.
I think overall the Renaissance is the better hotel, but the Hyatt isn't exactly shabby.
However, one time I got the strangest room at the Renaissance...my window overlooked some kind of inner courtyard, perhaps of the mall? I checked in very late, so I don't remember much. But I do recall the view was creepy...no natural light coming into the room. I got the room changed the next day. Just make sure you don't get one of these rooms!
Also, not all rooms at the Hyatt are created equal. I paid a higher price, and one of my industry friends got a internet special for $140 cheaper. She got a bizarre-shaped, tiny room by the elevator (which is external and could be seen going up and down from her window).
However, the bar at the top of the Hyatt provides a nice view if you want to have a cocktail.

Thanks to everyone! I ended up going with Priceline and got the Hyatt for $100/night - a steal compared to other online resources and the hotel websites. On biddingfortravel, curiously, the only 4* that's come up recently is the Renaissance, so when I bid on a 4*, I was expecting that one, if my bid was successful. Glad to know both are just fine.
Many thanks to all who responded!
