Back from Hawaii...wow

We returned last week from our trip to Hawaii. We were there for 10 days...(definitely NOT enough time)
It was everything we expected and more. At the end of our trip, DH said all the hours I spent sitting at this computer researching for our trip really paid off.
If someone were to ask me what my favorite island is, I don't think I could answer them. We visited Oahu, Maui, and the Big Island and there are things that I like about each of them.
I think the volcano on the Big Island was probably the highlight of our trip for me. DH really enjoyed deep sea fishing in Kona...(which he did for three whole days..
My six yr. old really loved snorkeling, and our son, well, he's torn between surfing, fishing, and just boogie boarding in the waves.
I'll be happy to answer any questions, although we didn't do very many touristy things...
We will definitely be going back..there is SO much that we didn't get to do and see...

Glad to hear about your trip. Who did you rent a car from, and how did that go? How did you book inter-island air? Any suggestions on that? Thank you.

Hi
We are going to Big Island in March. I could use some help - did you fimd any shelling beaches? Especially Kona-Kohala area. We're spending 2 nights Hilo, 1 night Volcano House 1 night Hilton Waikoloa. Need to find a mid-price place for another 3 nights. Thank you!!

This is for Kelly. We stayed next door to the Hilton Waikoloa at the Royal Waikoloan, now the Outrigger. It was so great. It's on a beautiful bay and had hammocks stretched between the trees. We had a room with a nice view. Went next door to visit the Hilton and we were glad we stayed at the Outrigger. Much nicer beach. Quieter. Easier to get around.

I just learned today that I'm going to a conference in Waikiki in January. My husband will go along and we will stay an additional week. My husband is an avid fisherman. Could someone give me specific information about booking a deep-sea fishing expedition. What was the three-day trip about? I'd be so grateful for any information anyone can give me. If possible, could you respond to [email protected]. Thanks so much.

We're also planning a 3-island trip...what did you think about 3 in 10 days? Would more time have been better? Was it hectic?

Suzie...glad to hear you liked the Outrigger --we'll be going this November one week at the Outrigger then down to a condo in Kona for a week. Did you happen to use the Outrigger's kid club at all? We'd like to try it a couple times for our 5 1/2 and 9 1/2 daughters. How did your kids like the pool and the beach there? What were some good family restaurants? Thanks for any info.

I am not into fishing, but there are tons of outfits at Kewalo Basin (near Ala Moana Park, close to Ward Avenue). One you might try is Magic Sportfishing, 808-596-2998.

Maw, though I wrote my note last year, I still would recommend the Outrigger to anyone going to the BI. We went there before we had kids so I can't recommend anything about the kids club . I thought it was a most relaxing time. Since then it's been redone a bit. I hear the pool there is good for kids. Hope you have a great time.

GloriaReading - why did you post this on an old post from 2001? You'll get more info if you start a new post with your question about deep-sea fishing in Hawaii.

Thank you for advising me about new post vs old post. I have never done this before and have not a clue what I'm doing. I was thrilled when I got a response. I guess I should now be double thrilled since it was an old post. Thank you for telling me. I'm so glad to have discovered this board. It's been very, very helpful.
