B&B or resort in Georgia--recommendations for unexpected long weekend off?
We have an unexpected long weekend coming up, the first weekend in Feb. We live in west central Georgia, and would appreciate any recommendations for a nice, relaxing bed and breakfast or interesting resort somewhere south of the N.Georgia border, and north of, say, Perry. Any suggestions?

I was going to suggest Helen, Ga as a place to consider. My father enjoyed visiting there many times. Don't know if that's too N for you though. It is a quaint place in the mountains & I imagine it would be relaxing to curl up in front of a fire in a cabin or B&B there. Here is a website with some photo listings of places to stay. Some look really nice.

Calloway Gardens is also nice but might be too near you. I saw they offer a winter cooking school class that looked neat. I'm sure it's prettier in the later spring though.

Just got back from the Ritz Carlton Reynolds Plantation on Lake Oconee and it was incredible. Can't say enough good things about the elegant lodge decor of the hotel, the food and the service. The spa was wonderful and, unlike the Grove Park, guest have complimentary access to the spa/pool/ exercise facilities. Both the coed and women's jacuzzi were strategically placed in front of fireplaces with roaring fires.
I had not been keen on this location and now, can't wait to go back!

We love the Blue Ridge/Ellijay area.
There are two very nice cabin places we've stayed at, complete with hot tubs. My first choice would be Black Bear Cabin Rentals. www.blackbearcabinrentals.com
The second would be The Last Resort.

Wow! What a switch. Costa Rica for Georgia
I'm sure you had a blast. I love Costa Rica (went there for work and had some play time but not enough).
If you do head to the NE corner, there's a company that does 4WD back country tours of the forest. May be worth looking into.
