Avoid Riverview Hotel

I live down the street from the Riverview Hotel on Jane Street in the West Village in New York City. It's a great location in a fun neighborhood, facing the river. BUT, every day I see people walk past our building into the Riverview and, minutes later, walk out and come to ask our doorman if he could recommend somewhere else. The Riverview, called the WORST HOTEL IN NEW YORK ( http://www.manhattanusersguide.com/a...&category=info ) seems to be a place primarily for prostitutes, drug dealers, etc. I feel terrible for the tourists I see who think they've found a bargain and then they end up on the street with their luggage trying to find another place to sleep.

I have no knowledge of this establishment, but I think it's a little odd that your one and only post on Fodor's is one that slams a hotel

Your post seems to suggest the person who posted the note has an ax to grind. Read the review on the hotel at the site listed and you realize the writer is being a good samaritan. This is the review

The Best and Worst Hotels in New York

Riverview Hotel, 113 Jane [Washington/West] 212.929.0060. The sorriest of the more than 250 hotels we have visited in New York. Guest room floors look like a prison. Rooms are small, barren, and awful. The bathrooms smell of urine and mildew. In one of them, a homeless person is cleaning himself up at the sink. He deserves better.

Didn't mean to ruffle feathers, but it seemed a little strange that someone found this site and registered with the sole purpose of telling eveyone about a TWO YEAR OLD review of a yucky hotel? And with rates starting at $40 per night including tax (and a key? - YIKES! I would hope that would be included!) what do you expect? It probably is gross, but that wasn't my point.
