Avalanche in Colorado

A huge avalanche has buried several cars and forced others over the edge of
U.S. 40 near Berthoud Pass in Colorado, highway officials tell The Associated
Press.

I hate driving over Berthoud Pass! This is a main route to Winter Park and one reason why I don't like going there. It's VERY windy today in the mountains and all the snow that has piled up on the mountains, in trees, on rooftops, is blowing. Here in Summit County it started out bright and sunny but there are big clouds coming in now and falling and blowing snow is making it miserable outdoors.

We go to Winter Park quite a bit. Actually, due to improvements Berthoud Pass is much easier to drive than 10 years ago. Thank goodness it was late in the morning. Hopefully everyone is safe. It is going to be a long drive back to Denver today for Winter Park skiers.

Catbert, earlier this morning I could see the the wisps of snow coming off the mountains due to the winds. It was really pretty against the deep blue sky. Now the back range is completely obscured by the clouds.

CNN tv has had some interesting video, photos, and phone calls from eyewitnesses. Can't even imagine. Officials think they've rescued everyone who was swept over the side of the mountain.
