Auto Rental Age Requirements Hawaii

I am planning a trip to Hawaii as a college graduation gift for my 19 year old daughter and her 21 year old boyfriend for next June. They may be limited to Oahu because of the age restriction for auto rental. They want a bit of history but most of all relaxing on the beaches. No active nightlife required (they don't do clubs). They can get Enterprise in Oahu but not in Kauai. Their desire is to go to Oahu for a couple of days and then on to Kauai. I am just at the beginning of putting this trip together but availability to rent a car may play a factor in what islands they will be visiting. Any feedback?

This is a no brainer. Check with a rental car company. You will probably face a hefty "extra" charge.

I do have a "brain". I did check with some auto companies. Yes, they did want a "hefty" charge. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with this and maybe there is something that I am overooking.

On Oahu try Paradise Rent a Car . They have 4 locations in Waikiki and they do rent to 18 year olds. Their phone# (808) 946-7777 or toll free 1-888 882-CARS. On Kauai (where you really need a car) try Thrifty Rentals. Sorry don't have #. On Oahu they don't really need a car as they can utilize THE BUS which can take them all around the island for 1.50. Aloha!

Thank you hawaiian traveler. I just checked with Thrifty and their surcharge is just $15.00 a day in Kauai. Now I can start planning. They do want a car in Oahu as they do not want to stay in Waikiki (looking for something very inexpensive on the North Shore...but I'm not there yet). I'll put the Bishop Museum on their list of things to do. When the relatives ask what they can get her for her graduation, I'm going to suggest gift certificates for excursions (things that they would never be able to do on their very limited budget). But...that's another thread. Again, thank you for taking time to respond.

Also on Kauai---try Rent A Wreck. My 21 year old son is renting a car there next month. (PS The cars are not wrecks, LOL.)
