Thanks to P_M for taking the lead on organizing this delightful gathering.
Thanks to Austin for trekking in from the lake
Thanks to the fyb's for keeping us legal.
Thanks to Thin for venturing out into a landscape full of people who speak to strangers
And damn that waiter for putting all that cornbread right in front of me when he should well have known that early childhood admonitions about children starving in Africa would compel me to consume every last crumb of it.

Seamus, remember when I took home a burger for Mr. P_M? I didn't know this at the time but the cute waiter put a loaf of cornbread in the bag with Mr. P_M's burger. I usually don't care for cornbread but that cornbread is pretty good. I had some with dinner tonight.

How fun to read this; wish the fodor's gang had been there one week later. I just got back from Austin last night (one day delay, but that is another story). Had a reunion there (another other story); my second visit to your city and I LOVE it. Besides the crazy and wonderful people I was with, I enjoyed in no particular order:
-the cute waiters you mentioned
-margaritas at Gueros
-shopping for milagros at Tesoros (or Tesaros?)
-pretending we were still in college hitting the 6th street bars
-fancy cocktails at the Driskoll (it has an odd spelling, so not sure that is right) while singing Deep in the Heart of Texas loudly - and no one even noticing (they were all louder)
-walking the amazing river walk
-bat watching
-SoCo thrift stores
-happy hour at the Continental Club
-closing down the Hole in the Wall on their 40th anniv party
-great Chinese food -have to find the name of that place
-wild flowers and birds out at my friend's place in the 'country'
-hippie church at Maria's tacos.
-your lovely skyline at night
Glad all y'all had a good get-together!

On Sunday, June 15, Keith and I also had cocktails at the bar in the Driskill Hotel.
There is a whole lot of cowhide going on in that bar!
I had so much to drink, I don't know how I made it down that staircase and out the side door to Brazos Street!

I can't wait to come back, PM, thank you!
Thin, oh yes, cowhide and a pretty amazing 'rack' of longhorn horns on the wall. The vegetarian in our group let out a little scream when I pointed out the cowhide-under-glass table tops.
And that was a tricky staircase!

I'm another new convert to the Austin fan base. Just got back on Wednesday after bringing DD2 to orientation at UT-A. Got a chance to explore a little but seems like there are tons more to see.
Check out the happy hour at the Four Seasons on Tuesdays - live music on the lawn, $3 local beer and $3 brisket sliders.
