Aussies (Australians) Visiting LA and Vegas

A couple of Aussies can fit in a one day driving trip (maybe two) being considered instead of flying between LA to Vegas last week in April. Is this type of road trip interesting or a waste of time? Are there any historical sites of interest along the way? Any gold mining towns? Ghost towns? Would like an old wild west cowboy type of journey if it was worth it. If so what route to take? Thanks

LA to Vegas is a WHOLE LOT OF DESERT. no wildwest stuff at all, actually the wild west was east of there!
Death Valley national park is almost on the way, there is some interesting cultural stuff there but not really a ghost town. arizona has more of that (south east of where you will be) I happen to think the desert is beautiful but desolate. not sure of the driving time, it looks like 6 hours. LA is big so it depaends on where you start from for your route, but just be advised any thing that is not a interstate will be very remote in the desert and few services between towns and likely few places to eat. but no worries. with a tank of gas you will make it las vegas... good luck

I'd suggest you spend your time on a 1 hour flight between L.A. and Las Vegas - the drive is BORING to say the least. Far better to jump on a plane and land here in good spirits and with lots of energy to hit the casinos and contribute to the local economy

Oh yeah - and just to warn you - EVERYONE here in Las Vegas expects to get tipped - when my friends from Perth, Australia were here last year they were surprised at how many tips they handed out - very different (according to them) than Australia.

Hi you people from OZ!

I have taken this roadtrip to LasVegas and would never do it again. Long and boring is the description.

One thought. From Long Beach (south of LA) you can catch JetBlue and fly to LasVegas for an inexpensive flight fare.

Driving from LA to Vegas is like driving out to Longbranch from Marysborough! (Except there is nothing out there... no cute towns every hour on the hour!) We loved our long drives in Australia but you will be much happier flying!
