Aussie needs an Irish Pub in Manhattan
We will be in Manhattan on Sunday the 10th of October and we need to find an Irish Pub to watch an Australia v's Ireland rugby Union game that is being played in Wales for the World Cup.
The game starts at 10.00am(EST) so ideally we would love to find somewhere that is maybe doing a special Brunch for the event.
If anyone could please recommend a pub that maybe doing this it would be a huge help.

I know a great place for this only it's not in Manhattan. It's just a ways outside in Yonkers near the Bronx border. (if you don't have a car, take Metro North or the subway then a taxi)This is a really nice friendly bar and restaurant in an Irish neighborhood. The place is called Rory Dolan's on 890 McLean Avenue (off the Deegan/87 North)in Yonkers - phone 914-776-2946. But if you're really keen on staying in NYC then try Kennedy's at 327 West 57th St - phone 212-307-1722. If these two places don't have something going on then I'm sure they could at least direct you to another locale. There's also an area with a big Irish community in Queens someplace but I don't know much about that area. Good luck and let me know how it turns out.

You can do a search for this at the website newyork.sidewalk.com -- there are tons of Irish Pubs in Manhattan and the sidewalk website will tell you a little something about all of them and may recommend good ones, but the key will be finding one showing the match. If I were you I would call a few when you get to New York and see which ones plan on showing the match. Good luck!

Hi, Mel:
McSorley's is one of the most historic Irish pubs in Manhattan. I'm not sure if they will be playing the soccer event you speak of, but it's probably a good bet that they are. McSorley's is on E. 8th St. in the village, and is a very popular spot.
Don't worry though. There are tons of Irish pubs in the city, and I'm sure you won't have any trouble finding one once you get there. You can also try the Time Out New York magazine. They have lists of pubs/bars/restaurants that may fit the bill.
Good luck and have fun!

Try Thady Cons on 2nd Ave and 49th Street. Good Irish pub with decent food. Also has a "real" Irish crowd which is an anomaly in New York's Irish pubs, so there's bound to be some friendly rivalry on a Sat morning.
Other than that, you could try Kennedy's on 57th Street between 8th & 9th, P.J. Carneys on Seventh Ave, or any of the Irish bars on the Upper East Side - from the 50s up 2nd and 3rd Ave. Don't bother with McSorleys - it's just a tourist trap. I second the suggestion of trying http://newyork.sidewalk.com and also http://newyork.citysearch.com which has a decent listing of Irish bars!
Have a good time in NYC, and enjoy the match! Up the Irish!
