Atlanta on way to and from Bermuda

I am looking for a place to take family (teens, parents and grandparents) for Christmas. Thinking Bermuda but it requires flights both to and from that include 12-14 hour layovers in Atlanta. What can we find to do in Atlanta
near the airport for that amount of time?

Aren't there any better flight options?

Nothing unless you have a car.

But you can get on the MARTA train from the airport station (in the Domestic Terminal) and be in downtown Atlanta or Midtown Atlanta in a few minutes. Lots to see and do there.

You could see the Aquarium, World of Coke, ride the Ferris wheel.

Jmvikmanis—My favourite thing in Atlanta was the Botanical Gardens which had a creative and dazzling light display at night—an idea if you get a nice day around Christmastime as I did one year. Midtown activities are close by; the High Museum there had an excellent temporary exhibit when I went, possibly worth investigating what’s there when you’re in town. Best wishes, Daniel

I had links in my post but deleted them because adding links here on Fodors has been troublesome.

The Atlanta Botanical Garden is wonderful with Holiday Lights. Dark comes early in the winter so you could go early IF the departure time is late in the day.

The upcoming exhibit at the High is Beatrix Potter from the V&A.

Their Eric Carle exhibit years ago was fabulous so I expect this to be as well, and to appeal to a wide range of ages.

I would research other flights. I've used Atlanta as a connecting airport between Seattle and the Caribbean. But it was a straight up transfer of only a few hours (red eye from Seattle, morning flight on to Jamaica).

Just a note about the temperatures you may encounter. In the mid ‘70s, I accompanied my husband to a meeting that was held in Bermuda in the early spring. Bermuda is not the Caribbean; it was sweater weather sitting outside during the day.

Good reminder. It's a lot further north that many expect. All of Florida is further south and potentially warmer.

Do you know about the Cloisters on Sea Island? It may be a domestic alternative, based on your budget.
