Aspen Dining-Cache Cache?

Traveling to Aspen this fall and wanted to try the restaurant Cache Cache since heard good things about it, but having a hard time finding a website or phone number to call for reservations. Any other restaurants in Aspen we could try if this place is closed? Olives maybe? First time to Aspen and looking for great food with interesting atmosphere, but not too pricey or fancy. Want to avoid the tourist traps.
Thanks...

Go to www.aspensnowmass.com and look for dining options. The website has lots of links to restaurants.

We go to Aspen every year for a week or two at Christmas break and love Range the very best with Elevation coming in second. Range has a great selection of local type meats (elk, bison, quail) that are tender and paired with nice sides, usually organic produce. Very simple atmosphere (I always think kind of Asian feng shui vibe) and if you go before 6 they usually have a 2 for 1 dinner option when you buy an appetizer and entree or an entree and dessert.

I haven't been to Cache Cache but it is one of the most popular, long lasting restaurants in town so keep looking for their info. I can't imagine after almost two decades they've gone out of business. I always hear great things but I showed up late (mistakenly thought my ressie was for 7:15 instead of 7pm) and was scolded by the hostess who made a big fuss about giving my table away. I apologized when I discovered we were late and I had no problem with the fact that I made a mistake and couldn't be seated. I just didn't like being bitched at loudly by the hostess (who had no trouble seating someone else as it was during high season).

I've not been too impressed with Olives. I've eaten there for dinner and lunch and both experiences were just okay. I do like the restaurant at the Little Nell (can't remember the name, Montage, maybe?)which you can find via the aspensnowmass website.

Thanks Amwosu, will check out your above mentioned website. Glad you mentioned about Olives. I checked the prices, and it's about $45 pp. Kind of pricey if it's not really that great.

GaiLK, let me tell you about a super thing called GOOGLE. You go to www.google.com, enter Cache Cache and the first thing you get is the website for Cache Cache (www.cachecache.com). When you go to the website, it lists their phone number including a toll free one - 1-888-511-3835. When all else fails use GOOGLE, or if you want to save energy and time try there first.

Our meal there was wonderful in every way. We also liked Olives, but it was surprisingly quiet (we were there the last week of September several years ago). Our favorite meal was the brunch out at the Pine Creek Cookhouse. Michael and Catherine Zeta were our "next table" neighbors. If we had time, we would have gone back there for dinner, but it was our last day.

We also had a great meal at Cache Cache and I would recommend it.

There are so many great restaurants in Aspen. A friend of mine loved Matsuhisu as well. http://www.nobumatsuhisa.com/flash/news/news.html

Have a great time.

Hey Patrick, how long since you've been to Pine Creek Cookhouse? We finally went last year and it is one of DH's favorites. The original building burned down a few years ago and the beautiful log building we went to last winter is fairly new. Nice menu and atmosphere. Gail, if you are interested in PCC it is out of town a bit and you park then hop on a horse drawn sleigh (maybe it has wheels when there isn't snow?) or in the winter you have the option of cross country skiing to the restaurant. Their website is www.pinecreekcookhouse.com. They only have two seatings (64 people each seating) each night during the season and maybe only one seating during the time you will be there so book early if interested.

Patrick-Before I posted, I did GOOGLE, search, whatever, and did find Cache Cache's website, but their website is "under construction" and the phone number listed was out of service when I called today (hmmmm). So gave their email a shot.
Still waiting to hear back from them..

My how time flies. I was going to see it was two years ago, but I just looked and see it was in September of 2001 -- that's FOUR years. We drove right to it in September.

And Gail, in that case sorry if I sounded a bit "anal", but when you said "having a hard time finding a website or phone number" that sounded a lot different from "found their website and phone but the phone isn't working".

Patrick-My wording was a little confusing, and you didn't sound "anal" at all, just didn't want you to think I was internet "dumb". Thanks for all the feedbacks, still waiting to hear back from Cache Cache via email. We may end up eating at the Popcorn Wagon, haha (heard they have great crepes!)....

Gail, dessert at the Popcorn Wagon is a nightly event for my two sons. They have crepes made with bananas, strawberries, AND chocolate then loaded with whipped cream.

Some relatives recently ate at Pinon in Aspen and really liked it. I think it's the newest trendy place to dine. (About $220 total for two, including tip.)

Just found out Cache Cache is having a Hurricane Katrina fund raiser the only night we will be in Aspen (figures!), charging $250 pp for dinner. Good cause, but not sure I want to spend that much on dinner for 1 night. Popcorn Wagon is starting to look like a very good option, haha..

Then I still say Range is a good choice as is Pine Creek Cookhouse if you want to take the time to get out there. Beutiful scenery from PCC if you go during the day. If you like tequila, Jimmy's is the place with about 200 different tequilas and mescales and a good menu.
