Asian Restaurants in San Francisco
I got some great recommendations for restaurants on an earlier thread, but it didn't offer much in the way of Asian restaurants. Any recommendations? We'll be carless so ones that are accessible by foot (we love walking) or easy bus trips. thanks!

"asian" is a pretty broad category. Thai? Chinese? Vietnamese? Fusion? each is pretty different.
for restaurant recs i typically go to chowhound.com
Chinese in the City:
R&G Lounge
Yank Sing or City View for Dim Sum
Vietnamese / Fusion:
Slanted Door (this is one of the more popular spots in SF so you need to make reservations well ahead of time)
The House - this is an asian fusion restaurant in North Beach - it's quite small but very nice and popular - make reservations
Ana Mandara - near Ghiradelli Square i think - it's a big beautiful restaurant. more touristy but it's a nice room and the food is good.

Thanks for the ideas so far.
In answer to the question, what type of Asian food? -- any and all. We like Vietnamese, Thai, Cambodian, Korean, Japanese, Asian fusion is good too...not really particluar. Pricewise, I think more mid ranged ($40-$50 a person) than high end (although I know sushi can be expensive.)

Thanks! One question on Thanh Long which sounds delicious. We're staying at Union Sq. How much of a hassle would it be to bus it there? Any idea on what a taxi fare?
mztery -- would love to hear your suggestions for places that are $12-$15

Every San Franciscan has their favorite Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, or Korean restaurant and it is usually located in their neighbor or out in the Sunset or Richmond districts of SF, which are definitely not walking distance to Union Square or a quick bus ride. That is why places like Slanted Door, Ana Mandara and Yank Sing are usual recommendations for visitors, even though they are fairly expensive.

I assume they are going to the Richmond because of the wealth of Asian restaurants there and they will have a car.
Yestravel, there aren't as many Asian restaurants downtown because of the proximity of Chinatown and the ones that are there are either inexpensive lunch spots for workers to grab lunch or more upscale, like E&O Trading, Yank Sing et al.
