Are you traveling over the Labor Day holiday?

Just curious to hear where everyone is headed over the weekend... I read yet another "staycation" article in the Times today. Does anyone have special plans close to home?

I'm heading to Queens on Sunday to see the US Open. I'm really excited... other than that I'm sticking really close to home and just laying low.

How about you? Where will you be when you say good-bye to summer?

No where - I'm waiting to see if we have to deal with Gustav! If so, we'll be busy, but not doing what I'd prefer to be doing.

The Hamptons to stay with friends. Leaving Sat early am and returning on Tues - to try to avoid the worst crowds.

Enjoy the Open, Katie. It's a lot of fun.

We're staying fairly local.
Saturday to friends with a house on the Sound near Rye.
Sunday a leisurely drive on the North Fork of LI - wineries, farm stands, maybe a lobster!

I saw that "staycation" article. My whole summer has been low-key like that. I don't even get a long holiday weekend. I'm working Saturday and then going out to Long Island to my boyfriend's house for some boating up on the North Shore on Sunday. Returning to North Jersey by lunchtime Monday.

I'm going to Portland, OR next weekend, so staying put these 3 days. In San Francisco, there are always some activities!

We didn't plan this weekend's getaway because of my work - co-workers were faster with their time off

And here the summer is just starting

Having friends over all day tomorrow to watch College Football!! Even though summer is ending, I love the fall because it reminds me of fresh cut grass on a football field. Then we'll take the boat out on the lake on Sunday or Monday... should be a good weekend.

My DH and I are driving two hours to spend the Labor Day weekend with my family at a hotel in Reno. Sort of a mini family reunion. My brother and his family fly in from Oregon and my parents drive 5 hours from Northern California. Added benefit is the Rib Cook Off in Reno this weekend...yum!

My sister, two brothers, and I, along with spouses, children, and grandchildren, are driving from various places in Kentucky to Chattanooga for a three-day weekend.

We always do a Labor Day get together somewhere away from home and have been to Chattanooga several times to take little ones on the Rock City nature walk. They all have loved the incline railway and the cave with the nursery rhyme characters.

I cashed in reward points for a hotel near Hershey, Pa for Saturday night. I waited until today to book to gauge the weather.

We usually spend our holiday weekends doing home improvement/renovation projects since it is nice to have 3 full days to really get into something. Or we hang out with friends and family. We rarely travel anywhere on holiday weekends, unless it is to be with friends and family, because traffic is so terrible and rates are high.
