Are you traveling for the 4th? If so, how and how far?
There's a lot of news about terror threats over the 4th. Seems the media thinks everyone is going to stay at home and hide in the basement. I personally am not traveling this holiday weekend, but not for those reasons, sadly, I have to work on Friday.
So who's traveling, how far are you going, and how (plane, car, train)?

We are going down the street to our neighbor's pool for cherrystones and other appetizers. Then we are cooking large lobsters and steamers in a giant turkey-fryer on our driveway and eating them in our porch. After that, it's time for illegal fireworks.
We are not traveling because there is nothing I would rather do tomorrow.

Leaving in 5 minutes to drive to Youngstown, Ohio to visit BF's relatives. It's a 6-hour drive from NYC. The last time I went there by plane (August) it took over 8 hours each way because of the godawful delays at LaGuardia. Never again!!
Everyone enjoy your 4th!

Will walk downtown to hear the Declaration of Independence read by a local dignitary (have you ever read it? it's actually fascinating); see an exhibit of antique toy trains; have a chicken barbecue; buy perennials for the garden; walk home. All this is done by our local historical society. Fireworks are the next night. I love it.

Doing the 4th at my pool, touching up the tan. Then hanging out in the condo in the nude to mix a marguerita or two, for after all, it is the nation's birthday, and I'm to be attired in the right suit for the occasion. If you can't stop, at least honk and wave. God Bless America!! You get the first toast tomorrow, US of A.

Heading to the UP to camp for the next several days, do a little fishing, swimming, and sitting around a fire. Its a 250 mile trip but since I only started planning 2 days ago it was the closest place I could find that had an open camping site - the entire state of Wisconsin is booked solid - damn FIBS!
